JESUS' DEAD BODY |
Good Morning Dan, and ‘beautiful art-day’ to all.
Appreciate you posting so many; they show real grief, even hopelessness...
But soon their tears would be turned to joy.
Have a couple of sculpture questions for Dan and etabeta:
#51 Richier: are those real windows in the background, and what is the scale?
#57 Sanmaritno : Stunning! I believe this work matches the skill of the Greek “Elgin Marbles”.
Thank You Dan!
Thank you, Dan, as always.
#3 Tissot
#7 by an anonymous artist who included a kneeling Roman soldier in his version of this sad event.
#7 Bloch
#18 a splendid Caravaggio
#23 Rubens
#38 Zsolnay, truly wonderful
#51 the monumental masterpiece of the sculptor Richier. He never achieved the fame he should have deserved.
Suggest you try this link to the homepage of Sanmartino's Veiled Christ.
The veiled Christ is stunning, but gazing upon Christ’s face from the Shroud?
Unforgettable!
Pete, the Shroud of Turin is here now, as promised.
Ah, got here on your own, I see.
The Richier sculpture is in the St Etienne Church of Saint-Mihiel, France. The 13 figures are slightly larger than life and are carved out of fine-grained Meuse limestone. This is the sculptor’s last known work in France.
While I admire the craftsmanship of such works, I never liked to see veiled faces, Christ or Saints.
Thank you etabeta; Richier was certainly highly skilled.
Hey Dan, thank you so much for the link to the sculpture’s website. Greatly enjoyed the story behind it, and the photos.
(even checked the museum ticket price: 10 Euros =:^)
It’s one of a kind.
BONUS ROUND: As long as you’re checking, Leon, what is the cost for entry into heaven?
“what is the cost for entry into heaven?”
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Dan, it’s within reach of the poorest man:
Honest Repentance, then Trust in Christ’s Atoning Sacrifice.
