Interesting use of "Aramaic" versus "Hebrew" in the NIV . On one hand, "Latin" is actually rhomaisti, adverb form for the language of the Romans.

OTOH, Aramaic and Hebrew are different languages. One obvious visual difference is that Hebrew words ending with the letter hei often end with an alef in their Aramaic equivalents.

If "Golgotha" came from a place-name ending with an alef, that might be why the NIV translates as "Aramaic."

I wouldn't know one way or the other without tracking that down [if the info is out there]; just thought I'd point it out.

John 14
5 Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way?
6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Truth is crucified at the place of the poll...

Golgotha

of Aramaic origin, cf.

H1538 gulgoleth {gul-go'-leth}
by reduplication from 01556; TWOT - 353l; n f
AV - poll 7, scull 2, every man 2, head 1;

head, poll, skull
1a) skull
1b) head, poll (of census)

Which is interesting because the same Strong's number 1538 in Greek is:

G1538 hekastos {hek'-as-tos}
as if a superlative of hekas (afar);; adj
AV - every man 39, every one 20, every 17, misc 7; 83
1) each, every

cf. half shekel Temple tax (for the upkeep of the Sanctuary, a gift, for the atonement of souls):

Exodus 38:26 A bekah for every man [1538], that is, half a shekel, after the shekel of the sanctuary, for every one that went to be numbered, from twenty years old and upward, for six hundred thousand and three thousand and five hundred and fifty men.

Exodus 30:11-16,

In the place of every man, for the atonement of souls.

not a bad one in the bunch
every artist gave the subject the respect it deserves

Is it my imagination, or are Tissot’s pieces more vivid and intense in this chapter?
Is he becoming less narrative and more expressive?
