CROWD CHOOSE: JESUS OR BARABBAS? |
Good Morning, Dan.
Same to you, Mary-Lou!
Good Morning Dan, and welcome to all!
#5 Glazunov
#7 Tissot
#10 Dore
#14 Stom
#25 He Qi
Love the way that Tissot ‘stays true’ to his view of the scene (he uses the same style and the same persons) : all of his paintings of this story, show the same incident from differing viewpoints.
Thank You Dan!
I love that about Tissot, too. But it bespeaks a larger truth: he was incredibly prolific, producing several hundred biblical scenes. He was the giant of biblical art.
Love the Glazunov at #5.
All of Tissot

Morning Dan..
Barrabas-—
The Madness of Crowds.
Thanks, Alba!
Apparently, Jesus relied on the crowd’s madness to ensure He was not pardoned.
Looking him up, he & his father (who founded it) were the editors of Puck magazine, America's 1st political cartoon/satire magazine.
I didn't research too deeply, the family was Austrian/German, and I suspect they were of the Marxist bent (could be way off base here, though).
Lest we think the troubles, particularly in the media that we face today are anything 'new', I submit, from Puck, this:
Yes, I assumed it was an editorial cartoon, because of “GREED” on the sleeves, but I decided to use it anyway because its portrayal of the angry crowd was so convincing.
Thought that Hristo Shopov did an amazing job, probably as close to the real Pontius Pilate as anyone could get. Would have to be a pretty tough guy to have that job.
It caught my eye too. I was thinking it might be “Puck” as it was the most radical of the weekly papers of the period. Too much so for it to be “Harpers” or “Judge”.
In Passion, nearly everything Gibson did was stellar. Jesus doesn't need a villain to carry the story, but Pilate will do, anyway. In Risen, Pilate braces himself for the visiting emperor, concerned that he will be seen to be keeping the peace. In The Chosen we've just met Pilate, who tempers his ruthlessness with a declared lack of ambition.
Do you recommend that series? I have seen the trailers.
The Chosen is the first multi-season series about the life of Christ. They are planning 56 episodes--7 seasons of 8 episodes each. We have seen the first three seasons, and filming for season 4 begins March 27. With so much time available, we get to know Jesus and His disciples in a way that two-hour movies can never present. And I promise you: unlike so many cheesy Christian projects, this is anything but. Moreover, the writers submit their scripts to a messianic rabbi, a Catholic priest and an evangelical scholar.
Watching is completely free. Many people have donated to fund it--the producers are completely independent and not beholden to any Hollywood corporations. Rather, the hand of God is all over this. The producers' goal is to get this Gospel presentation to well more than one billion viewers. The Chosen is in every country in the world, they're producing dubbing and subtitles in dozens of languages, and already over one hundred million unique viewers have watched.
Here is a link where you can watch it online. They have a free app if you wish to cast it to your television.
If you decide to try it, PLEASE start at the beginning, at Ssn1Epi1: "I Have Called You By Name".
Thanks! Appreciate the link!
Thank you etabeta: my personal all time favorite-
