JESUS FLOGGED |
No
Meaning?
I’ve tried to watch ‘The Passion’
Mel Gibsons’ movie...
Can’t finish it.
.
I know Jesus ‘was bruised for Our iniquities ‘
.
Words escape me
He could not have bled to death on the cross had He not been severely flogged, right down to the bone. The blood on His back wounds could never coagulate, because to breathe He had to constantly be pushing Himself up, so the wounds rubbed against the rough cross.
There’s #41 + #42
That’s the exact spot I stop.
.
God’s love for Us and the abhorrent Fact of our sinfulness dictated that God would suffer to redeem us.
.
Wonderful paintings to illustrate the horrendous act of violence to our beloved Jesus.
The FENSTER
#15 Bouguereau - Considered one of the most remarkable religious paintings, B. fills his canvas with believable behavior of the figures surrounding the almost lifeless, limp, human Christ. His pallor, his head hanging back, the feet dragging on the floor convey to us the magnitude of his exhaustion and suffering. A beautiful but disturbing scene even with the absence of blood and wounds.
#17 Rubens
#23 Caravaggio - Through the use of darkness and bright light, Caravaggio created a scene of violence almost sadistic.
#33 Stomer
#34 Belmiro de Almeida, powerful.
Good Morning, Dan.
I saw “The Passion of the Christ” in the movie theater. It was in Aramaic with subtitles, which meant I COULD NOT close my eyes.
My late husband, who was sitting beside me, was sobbing uncontrollably.
I am disappointed that I have found so few by Bouguereau, because every one impacts me.
By far it is the most overpowering film I’ve seen, so the reality was unimaginable. Jesus knew fully what was coming—and shrank from it momentarily—but it was for that reason He came into this world. He is my Hero.
Amen.
The Lord wants MERCY not Sacrifice.
God Bless You...
.
To God be the GLORY!
I do now!
Can you provide titles for those two paintings, please?
The first is titled Compassion. Read more:

The second is Christ Meeting His Mother on the Way to Calvary.
Do you have his Pieta’?
Good Morning Dan, and beautiful Sunday to each of you.
All are painful to view, but #41 from Passion of the Christ is awful. Historians agree with you Dan; this beating left him in extremis, and near death.
Would YOU, reader, be willing to have your firstborn humanely killed by your dearest friend?
But our Father, was willing to give His Son, as a Lamb of sacrifice, to be tortured and murdered by sinful men, for you and me.
We cannot comprehend this...
