Yes, he avoided suffering in this world. We can but speculate about the next.

I’ve found just a couple or three Tinworths, but they are quite distinctive, aren’t they?

Desolation.

Your opener by Ge (never seen his work before) captures it well.

The most terrible ending to mortal life imaginable.

Awesome #4 by the Austrian Gabriel Max. It is a remarkable engraving that is much better than the other in color. Judas is alone, filled with remorse, dejected, tormented by his evil action, the darkness of which is symbolized by the black birds.
#6 Armitage, English Victorian era artist whose work dealt mainly with historical and biblical themes. We have encountered him before with his splendid Festival of Esther.
#14 Gomez, 19th c. Spanish painter.
#17 Vasiliev
#18 Carolsfeld.

I suspect Judas has plenty of company now....

I am glad not to have to deal with him going forward into the Church Age.

Judas is alone, filled with remorse, dejected, tormented by his evil action

As the monumental nature of his betrayal dawned on him, he could not process it.

I don’t think it is humanly possible to process that level of self-horror. To grasp what he had done clearly and to to have full knowledge of what he had done…for all time and beyond time…that was his curse, as he died by his own hand the full weight of his actions was present within him.

The great irony for him is that death was no release at all for him, as the Christ showed just three days later. His desolation is eternal.

Yes, he felt remorse but it seems he never asked for God’s forgiveness.

Make friends with the hangman so he ties and places the noose properly; so at the end of the drop, the tooth-like dens of C2 (the 'odontoid' process) slams against the midbrain/pons/medulla - killing you instantly.

I suspect Judas did (k)not know how to tie & place the noose correctly, thus strangled & involuntarily kicked & struggled, thus breaking the rope...

He was remorseful though, so it is sad all around, to me, that he killed himself instead of asking for forgiveness.

Regret would be concerned about the consequences of your actions to yourself.

Remorse would be concerned about the consequences of your actions to others.

it seems he never asked for God’s forgiveness

The question whether God could and would have forgiven a repentant Judas seems obvious to me: of course He could and would have. Judas did not commit "the unpardonable sin". However, the Gospels, Acts and other passages leave the strong impression that, as Alba notes, Judas did not seek forgiveness.

Still, I am fully prepared to be surprised by those I encounter in heaven, just as there may be some who are dumbfounded to find me there. If one suggested on this forum that Hillary Clinton, for example, will be in heaven, howls of outraged derision would ensue; but she names the name of Jesus and claims salvation. Only God knows, and His grace is bounteous beyond measure.

Thank you, John, for contributing that informed medical explanation! Your presumption certainly sounds likely.

it is sad all around, to me, that he killed himself instead of asking for forgiveness.

If--a big "if"--if Judas had already been born again before his betrayal, then his failure to seek forgiveness may not have been fatal to his hope of heaven.
