Sadly, No. 7 by Rops is all too real in today’s world. (Don’t look too closely at the “tare” Satan is spreading over Paris.)

Sadly, Rops was celebrating and not warning against Satan. He did much of that evil sowing himself — pornographic art and blasphemous, deliberately shocking nude and sexual depictions of religious scenes, as well as practicing it himself. Don’t look into him if you don’t want to be disgusted. (Satanism was trendy among certain bohemian types in fin de siecle Paris.) The dude was a degenerate, so we can sum up the painting here as, takes one to know one.

Still, God teaches us through evil. Satan today sows sin through our popular and political culture and the technologies that advance it. Jesus’ parable in today’s world is heartbreaking and so very real. Those who seek him must do so amidst the weeds, literally.
