GA Megachurch Pastor Suggests Growing Weed on Church Property to Attract Black Males and Teach them to Farm
Distnr ^ | December 12, 2020 | staff

It is absolutely ridiculous and absurd for Jamal Bryant to suggest that his megachurch in Atlanta should grow weed on its property in order to attract more black males. Not only is this a terrible idea, it is also illegal. I mean, come on, who in their right mind would think that a church, of all places, should be growing a controlled substance? And to suggest that it would help to attract black males and teach them farming? Give me a break.

But don’t take my word for it, just listen to what the officials in Georgia have to say about marijuana being illegal: “Marijuana is a controlled substance and its possession, use, and distribution are strictly prohibited under Georgia law,” said Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr. “Any suggestion otherwise is simply incorrect and not supported by the law.”

So there you have it folks, growing weed at a church is not only a terrible idea, it’s also illegal. Let’s all just stick to the good old-fashioned values of faith, fellowship, and worship, shall we?

Well let’s also throw in a few twerking hoes, an open bar and lots of munchies! That’ll do it! And don’t forget the pizza!

In San Francisco and other Bay Area cities, there’s a strong push to get young black males into the cannabis business in the name of “equity” and “opportunity” etc. It’s a hell of a thing, when you stop and think about it... encouraging a demographic that disproportionately has problems with drugs, retail theft, weapons crimes, sketchy friends/associates to dedicate their lives to a field in which all of those things are part and parcel of the lifestyle. If they really wanted to do young black males a favor they would encourage them to learn honest trades like plumbing, construction, electrician, etc.

This sounds racist.

Why not grow watermelon while your at it. Perhaps raise chickens, not for eggs, but for frying.

Before "The Great Society", a black middle class, composed of hard working parents and respectful children, was anchored on top of the building trades. The "The Great Society" came along and destroyed the black family, and destroyed black people in general.

Growing marijuana does not teach someone how to farm. They certainly won’t learn anything about crop rotation.

Can we retire the word “megachurch”? This church has barely 25,000 members.

The megachurch is an organization type rather than a denomination.

DEFINITION: A megachurch has been defined by Hartford Institute for Religion Research (2006) and others as any Protestant Christian church which at least 2,000 attend in a weekend. The OED suggests that megachurches often include educational and social activities and are usually Protestant or Evangelical denominations.

Sounds like the recipe for a successful youth group if one judges things by obtaining large numbers with a minimal investment of effort and without care for quality.

Or the Midianite chicks in Numbers—which was basically the same thing.

I don’t care how some random person defined “mega.” It’s still miniscule compared to the major denominations. The word gets used as a pejorative.

The Hartford Institute for Religion Research is not some "random person."

You, however, are a "random person."

And I provided statistics. 25,000 does not come close to “mega” unless these other churches are maxi-mega.

And I provided statistics.

How about you just provide your own workable, commonsense definition?

Instead of criticizing the implicit definition contained in this article?

Nah, I’m doing fine showing the author’s bias against certain churches who squeeze a lot of folks into one or two buildings.

The author may, indeed, have a bias against certain churches - and the article may, indeed, contain indications of that. I don't claim to know.

I, personally, have no "dog in this fight."

The expression "mega-church" has absolutely no connotations for me - neither negative nor positive.

A sincere question: Are you saying that the use of the expression "mega-church" to describe this particular church was intended to portray it in a negative light? I.e., do you consider the expression "mega-church" to be pejorative?

Is there perhaps a better expression which could be used to describe churches of this "ilk?"

Megachurch I always took a reference to a cavernous building and non affiliation with mainstream denominations.
