At the end of Episode 5, Mary says to Nico, “You saw it!” Hoping Erick Avari will be back for more—he was incandescent.
There are three central characters besides Jesus: Mary, Simon and Matthew. Watching the entirety of their stories is such a joy. Matthew and Mary are vulnerable underdogs, my favorites, so easy to root for—whereas I find Simon hard to like.
My wife was in love with Ricky Nelson in 1963.
Lotsa pedigree there! Loved Ricky in "Rio Bravo" with Dean Martin & the Duke.
I remember Mark, and Tom, well, John.
That segment with Dean, Ricky and Walter singing, and John grinning, was called by one movie critic the best ever in cinema.
I'd include (in best of cinema lists) the 2 Charlton Heston greats:
CB Demille's 10 Commandments, and
Ben Hur
That singing reminded me of something:
I traveled with an uncle to Glacier National Park when I was a boy, maybe 13 yo, and we gathered in a large group with the other campers and sang songs.
Imagine that!
And then there was the 'Sing along with Mitch" stuff...as a culture, we used to have these...call them 'bonding' ceremonies, or rituals...
...things that brought us together, united us...
...sad that we became 'too sophisticated' to continue participating in such 'silly nonsense'...
Yes!
one of my kitchen windows looks out over where parts of Rio Bravo was filmed
I have amazing views from my kitchen
I totally agree
It is easy to cheer for Matthew and Mary
I even cheered for Matthew’s dog
Ben-Hur and The Ten Commandments are also among my favorite movies.
This summer I discovered Quo Vadis - 1951 with Robert Taylor and Deborah Kerr. 64AD Rome. I think it is a most excellent movie.
Ricky Nelson was a cutie, but he was way before my time.
Obviously, Thomas and Ramah have the hots for each other—cannot stop grinning, always a sure sign—and even her old man knows it’s inevitable.
But the long, long story is M&M. When he has nowhere to go he goes to her, and her reaction is, “He’s wonderful. He is a good man.” It’s simmering and a ways yet from a full boil, but their romance is the show’s other long story. When Nathanael or SimonZ hits on her, he will finally man up. And they won’t stand a chance, because Matthew has already won her.
Do you have inside knowledge?
I see the tenderness between M & M but wondered how far The Chosen would take it....
No, but why else would the writers keep fanning the flames?
LOL
