L U K E CHAPTER 5 One day as Jesus was standing by the Lake of Gennesaret, with the people crowding around him and listening to the word of God, he saw at the water’s edge two boats, left there by the fishermen, who were washing their nets. He got into one of the boats, the one belonging to Simon, and asked him to put out a little from shore. Then he sat down and taught the people from the boat.

4 Source When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch.”
Simon answered, “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets.” When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break. So they signaled their partners in the other boat to come and help them, and they came and filled both boats so full that they began to sink.

Then Jesus said to Simon, “Don’t be afraid; from now on you will catch men.” So they pulled their boats up on shore, left everything and followed him.

PLEASE NOTE: The Gospels record two separate occasions, three years apart, where Jesus miraculously caused an extraordinarily large catch of fish. The first is here, with Jesus in the boat; the second is in John 21 after His resurrection, with Jesus on the shore. Thus, we know which miraculous catch is being illustrated by Jesus' location in the picture.

I heard the stupidest ever interpretation of this passage not long ago. This guy proposed that the reason Peter wanted Jesus to leave him was because he was in a hurry to get the huge catch of fish to the market so he could make a big profit. When I heard that my eyes rolled so far back in my head it hurt.

Good morning!
I love #10
and normally I am not into folk art, but #16 has much appeal as it direct and honest

LOL!!! Safe to say that the Holy Spirit did not inspire that interpretation.

one of the ladies that I Bible study with has a roommate who is not saved
however he really likes The Chosen series,
so we are praying that the series will help to soften his heart and make Jesus real in his life

Yes, this series is not called “The Bible in Masterpieces”. If it tells the story, I am happy to add it.

Studies of conversions have demonstrated two commonalities: everyone saved was prayed into the kingdom, and the average number of times hearing the gospel was seven or eight.

Some great paintings! Always a visual delight with the stained glass windows.
Copping at #2; a very vivid and colorful #4; #8 by Crayer; #15 by Jouvenet; #20 Tissot.
#33 by Bassano mirrors the tapestry cartoon by Raphael. Bassano painted the scene on the lake of his home town, Bassano del Grappa. Peter and Andrew have turned toward Jesus, first recognizing him as holy. But emphasis is on Andrew, what is Bassano telling us?

Happy Sunday Dan, and greetings to all!

Then Jesus said to Simon, “Don’t be afraid; from now on you will catch men.”
Dan, we love the way our Lord gets ‘right to the heart’ of the matter- He knew what Peter’s actual problem was: fear. Then, the Savior reassured him, just as Jesus reassures us, so often.
Great topic Dan; thank you.

Jesus reassures us, so often. That's why, until it was superseded, my favorite verse was "Do not be anxious about anything...."
