I ask for prayers. My brother and I are being treated “with harshness and cruelty” by immediate family members. I have such a temptation to lash back in reciprocal worldliness but know it’s not the Lord’s way.

Sorry to hear about your family situation. Yes, you are right to not respond in kind. In my experience, it does little good and only involves you in their unkindness. You are also right that retaliation in-kind in these types of situation, though it is tempting, is contrary to what Christ would have us do.
