REALLY TEMPTS JESUS |
Can I vote twice??
#1 is a stunning portrait
#4 illustrates the somberness of the moment - and the rocks look so real they appear to be a photograph
On a spiritual level the greatest battle in history until maybe the end times.
You can vote endlessly.
#1 is so riveting that I thought yesterday about making it my desktop image, but I decided its proportions are wrong: too tall. I may yet figure it out, though.
Well said—and it came at the end of forty days’ severe deprivation. No wonder the angels attended Him!
I marvel and marvel at all He has done for us....
That alone was probably miraculous or supernatural. Most of us would be dead after40 days without food. The number of days is interesting since 40 was the number of days Noah was in the ark and I think the number pops up in the Bible elsewhere as well.
What a profound lesson for humanity! Thank you for all the powerful photos of today’s lesson.
In Italian we say in jest, when we want to push away someone or something abrasive to us: “Pussa via, Satan” (Go away from me, Satan)
Good Morning, Dan. :-)
I believe the Father wanted His Son to learn to rely on the Holy Spirit moment-by-moment, challenge-by-challenge:
Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted. Hebrews 2:18
and
During the days of Jesus’ life on earth, he offered up prayers and petitions with fervent cries and tears to the one who could save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent submission. Son though he was, he learned obedience from what he suffered.... Hebrews 5:7-8
Jesus turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan!" Matthew 16:23
And to you, Mary-Lou. :)
Good Morning Dan, and happy Sunday everyone!
One of your most exciting groups. The solitude and isolation of that wilderness must have been difficult, even for the Savior.
#4 Kramskoy
#20 Solomon - Is that pencil? Wonderful
#29 Scheffer
#32 Bloch
Many depict Satan as old, but #11 Titian shows him as a very young man.
Thank You Dan!
Vote EARLY, Vote OFTEN
Satan can materialize however he wishes. Now that you've pointed it out: wouldn't Satan have thought it advantageous to appear to Jesus as a contemporary?
“wouldn’t Satan have thought it advantageous to appear to Jesus as a contemporary?”
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
It would seem so, yes.
Hard to pick a favorite, but I’ll go with #38. “Be gone”!
Favorites: #4 (always a favorite), #28, #32. And of course, #39, our Lord as an exhausted prizefighter resting in His corner of the ring, attended by the angels.
The most compelling pictures, I think, are the ones in which the Tempter is not so obviously present; the Enemy would want to persuade our Lord that He was alone and that the tempting thoughts and desires were His own.
Jesus will someday tell him that with absolute finality. No wonder Lucifer is so fanatically desperate.
No doubt hallucinations and fantasies are most severe after forty days of all that.
