The miniature at #56 comes from the magnificent Book of Hours of the Duke of Berry, illustrated in the 15th c. by the Limbourg Brothers. This Book of Hours is considered the most luxurious and most famous example of manuscript illumination in late medieval Europe.

Those "poor and humble shepherds" certainly had front-row seats!

Imagine Joseph's and Mary's reaction when those onlookers arrived. Then Simeon and Anna, then the Magi, then the flight to Egypt....
