I find that #21 by Portana, has a beautiful, alive quality! Thanks for posting these Danny boy!
To: All
Job gets rightly credited as patient, but Joseph deserves a little credit also.

Portana’s brushwork is interesting. A noteworthy painting, as you proved, Johnny.

Joseph deserves loads of credit—God relied on him in a big way. He receives but a small fraction of Mary’s acclaim, but he is a true hero of the faith.

I agree
#21 is an extraordinary piece
It is light, life and brilliant execution.
I also respect the skill in #5. But #21 has Spirit.

in #21 I see a freedom in the artist
the others are more disciplined artists
but #21 has freedom
joy
celebration
victory is on the way

The angel touches Joseph's head, an intimacy appropriate to the momentous occasion, I think.
I'll be on the lookout for more Portañas.

YES!
And another thing, I sincerely DOUBT it was unintentional:
…notice the staff leaning on Joseph’s right arm,
then, the shadow that is perpendicular to it, rising from below, suggesting a CROSS!
That “line” continues up through the angel’s cloak- drape, and even follows through the angel’s raised left arm, and continues its “motion” through to the upper right of the painting.
Amazing composition!

...and in the middle of that line, bisecting and balancing it, indeed, causing it to be the focus
...is the intimate touch on Joseph's head.
To: spankalib
Leave it to you, John, to notice, as you so often do. Thanks!

I did not notice the Cross until you pointed it out...More reason to respect this work of art.
thank you!
