David naming his son Nathan after his wonderful accuser I never thought of that. Interesting. I think David revered Nathan the prophet and I think his son Nathan was more steadfast than Solomon, as you alluded to.

Nathan was more steadfast than Solomon Solomon was never accused of, and certainly was never convicted of, steadfastness. Quite the contrary, notoriously. So, it simply wouldn't do to channel through him all of the Savior's lineage--God's economy won't permit that.
We have no data about Nathan the brother, but his namesake's clarity and courage stand out in the full sweep of Scripture. Anyone, even Emmanuel, would be pleased to honor the senior Nathan.

Thank you, Mary-Lou. I owe it all to Buonarroti.

42? That’s the answer.
But, as you say, accepting it is an article of Faith.

True enough.
I should say I assume Nathen was more steadfast than Solomon who at the end turned to other gods and had lineage (Jechoniah/Jechonias) that God rejected.
Solomon is one who should give us pause. We scramble for that which Solomon had more than any man has ever had - riches, power, and wisdom (and tons of women). But with all of that, Solomon wished to die ("I hated life" Eccl. 2:17).
We're so lucky to have Jesus. To keep our eyes and hearts on Him is the key to a happy and successful life.

I’m glad, but I’d rather you check it out for yourself to be sure. Hopefully you’ll find what I said agrees with scripture - in fact if not, please let me know.

Solomon is one who should give us pause. The ultimate cautionary tale. What a spectacle! Woe to anyone who refuses to admit how much Solomon resides within them. I'll say "Pause". Full dead stop!

The Book of Ecclesiastes. The theme is “Under the sun” where Solomon got stuck.
We are “Above the sun” and in Christ we are seated “in heavenly places” (Eph. 2:6).
We like Solomon have the flesh which wars against us. But unlike Solomon and even David, we have the Holy Spirit with us always who is greater than the world, the flesh or the devil, and always brings us to victory in Christ.

We can hope—and perhaps presume—that he received the infinitely more valuable heavenly reward.

unlike Solomon and even David, we have the Holy Spirit with us alwaysWhile it is absolutely true that believers did not receive the permanent indwelling of the Spirit until Pentecost, Scripture suggests we can presume David's salvation and hope for Solomon's.

Oh, David and Co. were certainly saved but we are the very fortunate recipients of the permanent indwelling of the Holy Spirit, who men of old longed for but who only came upon them at certain times.
They had their wives and concubines, we have the comfort of the Holy Spirt who shows us the beauty and grace of Christ and the love of God.
Who came out better? Us I think.

the Holy Spirit, who men of old longed for but who only came upon them at certain timesA point of curiosity for me, which may get clarified in the next life, is which OT saints had extended visitations by the Spirit:
Abel?
Enoch?
Noah?
Job?
Abraham?
Moses?
David?
Elijah?
Daniel?
etc.
