The Bible In Paintings 2 ENCOURAGEMENT FOR APPRECIATING AND APPLYING GOD'S MESSAGE |
D A N I E L CHAPTER 6 [REPEATING YESTERDAY’S TEXT, FOR THOSE WHO MISSED IT] It pleased Darius to appoint three administrators, one of whom was Daniel. Now Daniel so distinguished himself by his exceptional qualities that THE KING PLANNED TO SET HIM OVER THE WHOLE KINGDOM. The administrators could find no corruption in him, because he was trustworthy and neither corrupt nor negligent. Finally these men said, “We will never find any basis for charges against this man Daniel unless it has something to do with the law of his God.” So the administrators went to the king and said: “O King Darius, live forever! The king should issue an edict and enforce the decree that anyone who prays to any god or man during the next thirty days, except to you, O king, shall be thrown into the lions’ den.” So King Darius put the decree in writing. Three times a day Daniel got down on his knees and prayed, giving thanks to his God, just as he had done before.

Then these men went as a group and found Daniel praying and asking God for help.

So they went to the king and spoke to him about his royal decree: “Did you not publish a decree that during the next thirty days anyone who prays to any god or man except to you, O king, would be thrown into the lions’ den?” The king answered, “The decree stands—in accordance with the laws of the Medes and Persians, which cannot be repealed.” Then they said to the king, “Daniel pays no attention to you, O king, or to the decree you put in writing. He still prays three times a day.” When the king heard this, he was greatly distressed; he was determined to rescue Daniel and made every effort until sundown to save him. So the king gave the order, and they brought Daniel and threw him into the lions’ den. The king said to Daniel, “MAY YOUR GOD, WHOM YOU SERVE CONTINUALLY, RESCUE YOU!” A stone was brought and placed over the mouth of the den, and the king sealed it with his own signet ring and with the rings of his nobles, so that Daniel’s situation might not be changed. Then the king returned to his palace and spent the night without eating and without any entertainment being brought to him. And he could not sleep.

Good Morning Dan, and hello to all.
Wonderful postings; and this story of faith continues. May each of us trust God, as Daniel demonstrated.
Thank you again Dan.

May each of us trust God, as Daniel demonstrated. Daniel is a hero of the faith, an exemplar to emulate.

All great pictures but oh, the “fenster”!
#6 by Riviere is exceptional. The lions, their roars silenced, seem to respect the contemplative prayer of Daniel.
#7 by Dore’, very dramatic. I also like #11. Thank you, Dan!

Wow. . .you outdid yourself on the pics! The whole Daniel scenerio reminds me of what is going on in politics today.
Thanks for your on-line ministry. A treasure!

Thanks, Pat. I agree that artists have done especially well in portraying Daniel communing with his Lord.

Good morning!
These are all so good - so powerful.
I particularly like #7, #20, #23 and #26, but they all speak volumes.

We have a bumper crop of excellence today—but then, how often do artists have such faith-in-action to portray?

That was a good morning for Daniel, though not so much for those who attacked him. As it turned out, Daniel withstood both the ravenous lions and the godless usurpers.

He did Everything Wrong.

Jonah's Sordid Saga begins here on Monday. I have labeled him
The Reluctant Prophet.
See if I do Jonah's actions justice by calling them "sordid":
"adjective--involving ignoble actions and motives; arousing moral distaste and contempt"

Yes, Daniel certainly exemplified “faith over fear.”
