I wondered how the SDA would wriggle out of the passage. I appreciate you being honest enough to at least link me to an article to dig through to find what the SDA believe. Would say I’m shocked at its response, but not anymore. Let’s post it for the class, ok:

Daniel prophesies about the abomination that makes desolate:

Dan 7:25 And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time.

Dan 8:11 Yea, he [the little horn] magnified himself even to the prince of the host, and by him the daily sacrifice was taken away, and the place of his sanctuary was cast down.
Dan 8:12 And an host was given him against the daily sacrifice by reason of transgression, and it cast down the truth to the ground; and it practiced, and prospered.
Dan 8:13 Then I heard one saint speaking, and another saint said unto that certain saint which spake, How long shall be the vision concerning the daily sacrifice, and the transgression of desolation, to give both the sanctuary and the host to be trodden under foot?

The word sacrifice in the above passage is supplied by the translators, it is not in the original text.
Also the word translated daily [H8548 - tamiyd] can also have the meaning perpetual. (Exo. 30:8, Lev. 6:20)
The word host [H6635 - tsaba’] can mean an appointed time (Job 7:1, 14:14, Dan. 10:1).
So the passage can be correctly translated as follows:

Dan 8:11 Yea, he [the little horn] magnified himself even to the prince of the appointed time (Lord of the Sabbath, Matt 12:8, Mark 2:28, Luke 6:5), and by him the perpetual covenant [Isa 24:5, the Sabbath] was taken away, and the place of his sanctuary was cast down.
Dan 8:12 And an appointed time was given him against the perpetual covenant [Isa 24:5, the Sabbath] by reason of transgression, and it cast down the truth to the ground; and it practiced, and prospered.
Dan 8:13 Then I heard one saint speaking, and another saint said unto that certain saint which spake, How long shall be the vision concerning the perpetual covenant [Isa 24:5, the Sabbath], and the transgression of desolation [Sun worship, Deu. 17:2-5, Ezek. 8:15-16], to give both the sanctuary and the appointed time to be trodden under foot? (see Isa 58:13)

So, the above translation change demonstrates a distinct linking of the little horn thinking to “change times and laws” in Dan 7:25, to the transgression / abomination that brings desolation in Daniel 8, 9, 11, and 12:

Dan 9:4 And I prayed unto the LORD my God, and made my confession, and said, O Lord, the great and dreadful God, keeping the covenant and mercy to them that love him, and to them that keep his commandments;
...
Dan 9:9 To the Lord our God belong mercies and forgivenesses, though we have rebelled against him;
Dan 9:10 Neither have we obeyed the voice of the LORD our God, to walk in his laws, which he set before us by his servants the prophets.
Dan 9:11 Yea, all Israel have transgressed thy law, even by departing, that they might not obey thy voice; therefore the curse is poured upon us, and the oath that is written in the law of Moses the servant of God, because we have sinned against him.
...
Dan 9:24 Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.
Dan 9:25 Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times.
Dan 9:26 And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.
Dan 9:27 And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.

Dan 11:22 And with the arms of a flood shall they be overflown from before him, and shall be broken; yea, also the prince of the covenant. (Lord of the Sabbath, Matt 12:8, Mark 2:28, Luke 6:5)
...
Dan 11:28 Then shall he return into his land with great riches; and his heart shall be against the holy covenant; and he shall do exploits, and return to his own land.
Dan 11:29 At the time appointed he shall return, and come toward the south; but it shall not be as the former, or as the latter.
Dan 11:30 For the ships of Chittim shall come against him: therefore he shall be grieved, and return, and have indignation against the holy covenant: so shall he do; he shall even return, and have intelligence with them that forsake the holy covenant.
Dan 11:31 And arms shall stand on his part, and they shall pollute the sanctuary of strength (Zep 3:4), and shall take away the daily sacrifice (perpetual covenant, Isa 24:5, the Sabbath), and they shall place the abomination that maketh desolate. (... they have done violence to the law — Zep 3:4)
Dan 11:32 And such as do wickedly against the covenant shall he corrupt by flatteries: but the people that do know their God (1 John 2:3) shall be strong, and do exploits.

Dan 12:11 And from the time that the daily sacrifice [perpetual covenant, Isa 24:5, the Sabbath] shall be taken away, and the abomination that maketh desolate set up, there shall be a thousand two hundred and ninety days.

And we’re still missing Daniel 12:1. Do you care to take a guess at who “thy people” is being spoken of? Do you know?

Do the SDA have their own interpretation of the Bible in print? Like “SDA Bible” or such?
