I think some people are making way too much out of the fact that many Christians were pleasantly surprised when Putin seemed to oppose the expansion of the LGBTQ agenda into Russian society. Approving of that is not the same as approving everything Putin does, including this war which occurred long after the actions that some Christians praised Putin for.

But even with this war, we can't forget that many - probably most - American Christians supported the dropping of atomic bombs on the civilian populations of Hiroshima and Nagasaki

For what it is worth, Putin has held the line against the “gay agenda” - while Francis has not. That alone makes Putin a target of the atheist West.
