“Re the “Big Bang” .. . the Bible says that, “darkness was on the face of the Deep” .. . and God said, “Let there be Light” ( Gen 1:3 ) .. .

I saw some scientific article last year which stated that the expanding universe was DARK after the Big Bang for 500 million years BEFORE the LIGHTS CAME ON !”

Right. The energy of the universe for the first 500M years was so great that photons couldn’t form. Astronomers call these the ‘dark years’.

Once the universe cooled off enough light appeared. It’s still with us, known as the background microwave radiation. It was predicted by General Relativity, discovered in the 40s without understanding what it was. Then when the astrophysicists computed what the wavelength would be, they looked for it and found it in the 60s.

That was right when God called me. I got astronomy books in the mail and they discussed ‘big bang’ versus ‘steady state.’ I wanted steady-state to be true, for it posited hydrogen atoms were created in space as it expanded. I liked it because it required God to exist. I wanted God to exist, but I needed proof. Then in a flash, I realized the big bang also had to appear from nothing, so either way, God had to exist.

I was relieved. I was worried about what would happen with the decline of the US (this was in 1968 when I was 12). We weren’t winning the Vietnam war, JFK, RFK, and MLK were all assassinated. There were race riots in our cities.

But with God as REALITY I knew everything would turn out well. That was the start of my conversion to Christianity.
