Sochi, October 21, Interfax - The Western civilization has the right to choose its own values, but at the same time it should not force them on other countries, including Russia, President Vladimir Putin said.
"We are watching with astonishment the processes taking place in the countries that used to considering themselves flagships of progress. Of course, the sociocultural disturbances that are taking place in the States, in Western Europe are none of our business, we are not getting into that. Some people in Western countries believe that the aggressive deletion of whole pages of their own history, reverse discrimination against the majority in the interests of minorities or a demand to give up basic things such as mother, father, family or gender differences constitute movement towards public renewal. It's their right, but we are asking them to steer clear of our home. We have a different viewpoint," Putin said told the international Valdai Discussion Club in Sochi.
"An overwhelming majority of Russian society has a different viewpoint," the president said. "We believe we should be guided by our own spiritual values, by historical traditions, by the culture of our multinational people," the president said.
"Adepts of so-called social progress believe they are bringing some new, better knowledge to humanity," he said. "So, God willing. Let them go ahead with it. Only the recipes they are offering are not new at all, we have done all that in Russia," Putin said.
As an example, he mentioned the radical changes that happened in Russia after 1917.
"The Bolsheviks, using the dogmas of Marxism, also said they would change the usual ways, not only political and economic, but the very idea of human morals, the foundations of the healthy existence of society, up to the complete abandonment of family. Such things have happened!" the president said.
That was a take-no-prisoners speech. A total inversion of historical precedent.
We are living in very, very strange days.

Yup
I’d like them to steer clear of my home too.
What Western civilization? What I see is not a civilization.
Right on Vlad.
Peter the Great tried to open Russia to Western ways. Vladimir Putin is closing the door to today’s Western crazy.
The liberality on social issues a hallmark of the USSR Communists Putin refers to in his talk.
Trump/Putin 2024
This is no longer the USA.
As soon as I can retire, I’m out of here - my 10 years of Infantry were a huge waste of my life, as now this is the communist society and Russia is more moral and more free.
I see no way to put the toothpaste back in the tube here in America.
My Russian sister in law says that Putin sees himself as the savior of a world gone mad.
He’s trying to tell our commies that communism doesn’t work.
Who is controlling Putin’s a Teleprompter ?
When you look to Mother Russia for cultural salvation, you know it’s very late in the day.

Putin is a lot of things, but he’s no Marxist. He may appreciate the role of the Soviet Union in making Russia a superpower, but that’s about it, as far as his appreciation of the Soviet-era. If anything, he probably wishes Russia would return to the days of the Czars.
I can hardly believe I’m saying this…
God Bless Putin for that.
It would be even more interesting to see his moves, so far it is only cutoff of relation with NATO, but there will be more: he must do something to prevent US hyperinflation to Russia. And he does not have much time.
Would things honestly be better in Russia? I mean, really, I think people are starting to want to find a better country than the USA to live in.
