Like the stained glass window at #27. Lovely colors.
#18, by Master Gislebertus, one of the greatest sculptors of the Middle Ages. The Last Judgement is on the main portal tympanum of the Cathedral of Saint-Lazare, Autun, France, and conveys with visionary intensity both the horror of the damned and the bliss of the elect. Judas’ suicide is on the left side, among the horrors of hell. It looks like the devilish figures help Judas hang himself, their forms foreshadow 20th c. Surrealism. For the masses looking up, it was a reminder of the effects of good and evil in their lives.
Works for me!
Took another look at the lovely colors of #27. Judas has no color: he is D-E-A-D.
