You remember it, too—that certainly dates you. I don’t suppose it holds up after half a century, but maybe I’ll look for it and see.

I ask this because I have never heard it discussed—Judas acknowledged his sin; he was remorseful, perhaps repentant—was he forgiven by God and allowed to enter Heaven?

You are right to distinguish between remorse and repentance. Actually, there is a good deal of debate out there on it. Obviously, none of us knows, and anyone who claims certitude is overreaching. We'll find out if we encounter him in heaven.

To me, the more interesting question is: How would you feel about it if you do see him in heaven, given what we know and don't know? Regardless of Judas' situation, my sins put Jesus up on that cross--which hardly leaves me qualified to look down my nose at anyone else.

If I make it to heaven and see Judas, I will assume that God knows what was in his heart, and it would be none of my business.

Thanks for answering; I always wondered about people like Judas. I wonder too, about Pontius Pilate. It seemed he was a populist who lacked moral courage (how many politicians do we have like this?), but was otherwise not evil, based on my interpretation of scripture.

Pontius Pilate...was otherwise not evil

Not sure of your meaning, Lou. The Bible is crystal-clear that "all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23), so Pilate needed to repent and believe the gospel, just as everyone else.

We today have no indication whether or not he did so; but we do know that his wife was appealing to him regarding Jesus, so that alone is reason for hope, after the fact. The centurion at the foot of the cross apparently believed, as did Cornelius of Caesarea; and Luke and Paul detail other military converts. So, why not Pilate, too?

Grotesque behavior by Judas Iscariot, grotesque end.

What I meant was that portrayals and scripture I've read don't seem to paint Pilate as genuinely evil. I agree that he would've repented at some point, and perhaps following the Crucifixion, he may have and then found his place in heaven.

This thread has made me realize the irony of those responsible for the death of God's Son, could also be forgiven by that same God...if they acknowledge their wrongdoing and are repentant.

Without doubt, we will be surprised by the presence of some people in heaven. But, as a wise believer once said to me, I wonder how many will be surprised to find me there.
