Having gone through the pictures on both threads, I’m struck by how helpless the man is. He is supine and unconscious. If had had not been helped, he would have died on the road.
Then I thought, “Ah! This is us. God is the good Samaritan. We have been His enemy all our lives. While we were knocked out and helpless by the enemy, He helped us move from death to life. He paid whatever it cost to help and heal us and promised as much as it would take until we’re well and alive.”
Nailed it. The possibility that this was an actual event does nothing to negate the symbolism Jesus intended: we are God’s neighbors. Notice that in the story the savior moves on and promises to return....
