Daniel Bonnell - One of the most striking, sublime, emotional baptism of the Christ by the contemporary Biblical artist. Done in vibrant, pulsating colors, Jesus is baptized in the very essence of God, into the waters of creation. It symbolizes the beginning and the end of Jesus ministry. As He lowers into the water, the body assumes the form of a cross, his head down in suffering, his arms outstretched as if to embrace all of humanity in this purification.

I wondered if any of the artists would convey the tie to the creation of the world in Genesis 1.
“1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 The earth was without form, and void; and darkness [a]was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.
3 Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light. “
Here we have the Trinity: God, The Spirit hovering over the waters, and the Word of God.
Note the parallel with the passage in Matthew:
“16 As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him. 17 And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.””
