Patterns I noticed:

1) Silhouettes are very popular.
2) Sometimes Mary is depicted riding sidesaddle and sometimes astride. It made me wonder if sidesaddle was a ‘thing’ at this time in the first century, or if it was ever done on a donkey.
3) The distance along their route seems to be about 80 miles. That would be a 4 day trip at 20 miles a day, but it might be 5 if there were any problems, or if they couldn’t make 10 hours a day at 2 miles per hour.
4) I’ve been over that route from Jericho to the Sea of Galilee. It’s mostly the Jordan valley, a nice gradual slope, but around the Sea of Galilee you have 1000 foot climbs and descents between Nazareth and the Jordan valley. Not easy going.

Have you seen The Nativity Story? It contains a graphic depiction of their journeying challenges. It's the kind of trek where at its end you'd give anything for a nice, soft bed and some relaxation--oh, wait. Never mind.
