I like many of these, but I detect a theme: Joseph is portrayed as an earthly, working man, with heavily muscled hands and arms. In contrast, the angels are ethereal, sometimes transparent, very much unsullied and unworldly.
Joseph appears to be sleeping from weariness or possibly worry about Mary. The angel’s message must have put his mind at ease, for he married her in the end, despite the public shame.
This contrasts him with Zecharias, who wanted a sign that the angel was from God. Joseph doesn’t doubt or question, but obeys, to his eternal credit.
Both Joseph and Mary contrast with him, and with us, for in truth we respond to God’s calls—be they angelic, scriptural or directly of the Spirit—as did Zechariah. God knew how to pick ‘em.
