RI Bishop: 'It's Time To Come Back' To Sunday Mass

With the announcement that churches will be allowed 75 percent capacity, Bishop Thomas Tobin called for Catholics to come back to church.

PROVIDENCE, RI — With Rhode Island's churches set to increase to 75 percent capacity next week, the bishop of the Diocese of Providence called for Catholics to return to weekly services.

Bishop Thomas Tobin pointed out that the timing of the lifted restrictions — March 19 — coincides with St. Joseph's Day.

"Our churches have been safe places to gather, and they are still," Tobin tweeted. "Our churches are open; it's time to come back, time to come home, especially for Sunday Mass."

Last March, Tobin issued a special dispensation for Rhode Island Catholics, which exempted them from the obligation to attend mass each week. That policy is still in place, and will remain until further notice, Tobin clarified.

"No decision on that yet," he said. "[We don't want to lift it] prematurely, until our priests and faithful are ready to do so with confidence, and without too many lingering restrictions."

I’ll go back to Sunday mass after being vaccinated. San Antonio archbishop’s dispensation allows live-streamed services as an acceptable TEMPORARY substitute.

I heard Joe went to mass today. I wonder if he asked for forgiveness for supporting the slaughter of millions of babies.

Here's a plan. Get on the phone and call the parishioners. You have their phone numbers.

Wear out some shoe leather and make house calls. Do your own evangelizing. That not the job of your parishioners.

Get those lazy seminarians out and put them to work doing some of the house to house work. They are getting an all expense paid education so they can do a few masses, weddings and funerals after they become priests. They need to work with the people and earn that education. Their hats are soft as a woman's.

When you (the Bishops) placed Caesar’s restrictions (the government) regarding registration and only certain amount of people allowed at Mass, and willingly go along with them, do not be surprised when people do not return. You listened to the fools, played by the fool’s rules, and totally fell for the fools lies instead of directing your faith to God. You stupid idiots.

I suspect they’ve lost some people for refusing to call out Biden’s murderous and anti-family policies; on top of that, many of those killed by this virus were older people who still felt an obligation to show up.

The hierarchy has “fundamentally transformed” the Church; it emptied them out.

Why is it significant to make this announcement on St. Joseph's day? St. Joseph never went to Mass.

Is this Bishop Tobin one of the good bishops or one of the bad bishops? It seems to me that I have read about a Bishop Tobin who is an ally of the gay mafia, but maybe there are multiple bishops with that surname in the US.

This is “good Tobin” in Providence. “Bad Tobin” is in Newark.

Thanks. You need a program to keep the players straight.
