Philosopher Peter Kreeft did a lot of work on the Book of Job. He says that, while the three friends were all technically correct and theologically “moral”, and Job was deficient, the three friends just talked “about” God, but they didn’t talk “TO” God, while Job, for all his failings, was what we call “engaged”, talking in the first person to Adonai, in conversation with God.
