3 Reasons Jesus Is Weeping over the Church Today

There is an interesting picture of Jesus in the Bible that you don’t see very often. That picture is Jesus weeping. I know of two instances in Scripture where this happened. One is when he came to the tomb of his friend Lazarus in John 11, the Bible tells us Jesus wept. However, there is another instance in Scripture when it talks about Jesus weeping. This comes from Luke 19 when Jesus was entering Jerusalem. . . . . . . . .

. . . . . . . When I was thinking about this I began to wonder if Jesus is weeping over the church today. By today I am referring to church in the 21st century, the way we do church now. As I began thinking about this question, I believe there are three things that would cause Jesus to weep over the church if he was walking the earth right now.

Jesus was Jewish. He didn’t have a church. Just disciples.

I cannot disagree with any of these...

#1 has been around since The Acts of the Apostles. Wake me up when they start burning ‘heretics’ again; I’ll wanna head start for good hiding.

#3 has been around for at least 40 years; the downside of mass media pastors like Billy Graham and Oral Roberts. Never pass up a shot at replicating a good business model.

#2 for the church has been a more recent development and one that I believe was fueled by worship leaders trying to create a comparable experience to full on production concerts by folks like Michael W. Smith, Third Day, or The Newsboys. It doesn’t even work in a mega church like Lakewood.

When someone gives credibility to systemic racism they lose me.

If you happen to attend a church that doesn’t put Jesus first and foremost, you need to find the door quickly and don’t look back.

Hey hey hey....

Talk like that just does NOT support the business model. Clearly heresy.

Good article however the author lost my interest when he threw “systemic racism” into his rant. IMHO there is no such thing as systemic racism.

"And I also say unto thee, that thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it."--Matthew 16:18

Other translations use "assembly" instead of "church."

I agree. There are systemic problems on all fronts when people interact over time. The Church has lost its First Love and it is so evident today.

Wikipedia: A systemic problem is a problem due to issues inherent in the overall system, rather than due to a specific, individual, isolated factor.

Amen, we left our church after 20+ years that we were very active in due to doctrinal issues, which by chance coincided with political positions, which I think get conflated.

We had a female associate pastor, in an otherwise conservative denomination declare herself to be pro-choice. Clearly in conflict scripturally and with church doctrine. Senior pastor counselled with her, she didn’t budge, and he wouldn’t take it to denominational authorities. So we left.

Chances are He has been weeping since the First Council of Nicaea in 325 AD, when traditional Christianity was ended and replaced by an organized elite.

God told us that the world would fall to Satan and his anti-Christ. I think Jesus is too busy sharpening his sword in preparation for his second coming to weep.

Well, He did form a Church Of The Firstborn From The Dead, the one and only one that exists in His Heavenly Residence (Heb. 12:23). In the earthly dimension, there are only churches, local assemblies, over each of which He is the single and only Head.
