Ping
Nope.
In fact, many saints expressed the desire to live in these days so they could help us fight the good fight.
Worse than a stolen presidential election?
The Civil War. 600,000+ people were killed.
I’ve heard the pope is under arrest.
No.
The Black Plague: 1/3 to 1/2 of Europeans died horrible deaths.
No.
Pol Pot exterminating 1/3 of the population of Cambodia?
No weapons, no fires....just a lot of people trapped in a small area by a few crack pots.
I’m curious...
This Pope is not the only false Pope... or usurper... in history ?
But, the split between the Church in Rome and the Eastern Orthodox branch addresses solutions that appear today to have already been accepted by the current Pope, given his ongoing “accommodation” of the Emperor Xi of China.
Having already sold off one branch of the church to the highest bidder... not the faithful... seems it should leave the rest of the Church in a quandary, whether merely curious about what they may be worth in the market, or ready to buy themselves out of Papal control as the “Chinese Church” has... seems it misses entirely the Eastern Orthodox solution... or the history of having competing Popes in different seats ?
How the Church in America chooses, knowing that the risks include sustaining consequences in the element of error this Pope has imposed, tied to the failure to address sexual abuse and pedophilia in a convincing way... seems too little addressed. And, its not like the loss of the Eastern churches (Orthodox and Chinese) are the only losses experienced. Is there another Martin Luther lurking out there ?
An incredible essay. Copied. And worth re-reading from time to time as the downward spiral continues unabated.
First time I have ever heard of the Arian crisis in the Church was today’s sermon because of St. Hilary’s feastday!
Peter was never Pope - the office wasn’t established until over a century after him. Nor was he ever a bishop of Rome according to Eusebius, the earliest church historian after Luke.
What makes this different is the general decline in any interest in Christianity in the West for people under 50. I don’t see how even 25% of the parishes in my area remain open 5-10 years from now.
Cuban Missile Crisis? That was a doozy.
Operation Able Archer in 1983 nearly got us all nuked. In fact it was a LtCol in the Russian Army that decided to go against training and disobey a launch order that saved our bacon.
He was actually demoted and reprimanded for saving us all.
Turns out the new Russian launch detection satellites glitched when the sunrise coming over earth’s horizon hit it just right.
I’m describing a trend that doesn’t seem to be reversing any time soon, and it has real consequences; besides the outright murder of millions of babies, we’re watching the family structure just disappear in much of the West. There isn’t just a dearth of young Christians - there is a dearth of young PEOPLE.
“many saints expressed the desire to live in these days so they could help us fight the good fight”
St.Therese wanted to live in the days of the Anti-Christ. The saints and especially the martyrs are really something else. I worry about my extreme weakness.
