No shock to me. We're a horny species. C.S. Lewis' take on it in Mere Christianity was basically that we're ABNORMALLY horny. There was something abnormal and inflamed about our own sexual appetites, in other words. He also mentioned in that chapter that the commandment for chastity for unmarried people was also the least popular commandment -- and he was speaking about this during the WWII era, when he did the radio broadcasts that would eventually become this book.

In most mammal species, the female is receptive to mating only when she is capable of conceiving, and the male plays no part in rearing the offspring. With human beings, a child who has two parents involved in his or her upbringing has a much better start in life than one who has only the mother involved. So Mother Nature has caused men and women to form long-lasting relationships to raise their children (ideally). Frequent sex can be explained as an inducement to get the father to stick around to raise the children. Parents discouraged their daughters from premarital sex because they didn’t want them to get pregnant with no man to be a provider. Of course the pill and easy divorce have changed the dynamics in the last 60 years.

That's why throughout most of Judeo/Christian history, people got married and began having children shortly after reaching puberty.

The idea of remaining a virgin until marriage but waiting well into one's mid-late 20s, or even 30s before marrying is a recent development and not very practical.

We are asked to set ourselves apart from this corrupt generation,......we aren’t made to fit in...we were born to stand out!
