Only in the eyes of the Catholic religion.
GOD, OTOH, tells us this .. ...
Psalm 103:2-3 Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits, who forgives all your iniquity,
1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
and this....
Colossians 2:13-14 And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross.
Note the ALL unrighteousness and canceling the record of debt.
God forgives fully and completely dealing with the entire record of our sin debt. All of it.
Praise God for His abundant mercy and the grace that He LAVISHES on us in Christ Jesus.
Hes not a stingy God stingily doling out little packet of grace based on performance. Hes a generous, giving God who gave His very best, His own Son, to redeem us for Himself.
Romans 8:32 He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things?
And this apparently is something that some Catholics just do not comprehend. For them, the effect of the cross of Christ must be REAPPLIED every time we commit a sin. As if His sacrifice did NOT cancel the debt of sin for all time. And then they have the gall to assert it is we who do not believe what God's word says! I often reject the Catholic interpretation of Scripture because it denies what is so clearly taught.
No one denies that we should always be cognizant of our behavior and accept God's correction, discipline and chastisement when we fall short of obedience to Him and commit sin - of ANY kind. But what is crystal clear is that the satisfaction for our sin debt is made and paid in full. When God's own born again children sin, He does not cast us out because Christ said He would "lose none of us" and we shall never perish or be snatched from His hands. Surely He is aware that sin still happens in our flesh lives. Confession and reconciliation is to restore fellowship with Him - NOT so that we be re-adopted or re-born again. Once again, it is their ignorance of grace that causes these distortions of the gospel and which makes their gospel an ACCURSED one.
