Toilets and sinks drain in the directions they do because of the way water is directed into them or pulled from them.
If water enters in a swirling motion (as it does when a toilet is flushed, for example), the water will exit in that same swirling pattern.
As well, most basins have irregular surfaces and are not perfectly level, factors that influence the direction in which water spirals down their drains.
The configuration of taps and drains is responsible for the direction of spin given to water draining from sinks and bathtubs to a degree that overwhelms the slight influence of the Coriolis force.

Funny you quote the Coriolis Effect and yet say it is a myth because you have been to”places I could only dream of”. Nothing like watching a plane land on a Carrier at night in the middle of an ocean. Wait? You were ignorant on that too! I worked aboard an aircraft carrier. I trained to be an ASW/RSS. Only ASW, at the time I was in, get the RSS designation if you didn’t know. Mic drop! Having a carrier do negative knots on a NorthPac was not fun either.
A simple youtube search showed that snopes was wrong btw and their explanation as to why: the Coriolis effect. Actually they showed the effect then explained then said it was the Coriolis effect. And I guess you being the superior “retired carrier pilot” (only reason to say you were was to assert your authority once more since you are retired and probably command a pile of worms now) would know all about the physics of the Earth and rotational physics. Like how Hurricanes in the Nothern Hemisphere rotate/swirl counterclockwise and in the Southern Hemisphere swirl/rotate clockwise. Because it is based on the rotation of the Earth. Duh! The Coriolis effect doesn’t stop just because it is a toilet. All in all is kind of crappy (of you) after all! Even carrier pilots can be wrong sometimes just ask those on the Forrestal when McCain was on board. Well in his case he was wrong all the time the dam traitor.
