I wanted to let everyone know that my mother’s battle with cancer in her face is now over and she passed away on 12/13, Sunday afternoon. We appreciate all the prayers for her when she was ill! Her decline was super, super fast. Even hospice told me that her case was faster than what they usually see. She was up and around, eating dinner with us on Wednesday and we watched a movie. Thursday morning, she woke up and I could tell right away that she was starting to show signs of a major change in her status and beginning of the agitation that’s common in end stage.

The tumor was becoming so aggressive - we realized last week it had moved under her chin and was going to start invading the healthy half of her face. The metastasis in her sternum and thyroid was visibly obvious and there is no doubt the tumors would be putting pressure on her trachea. That would have been a nightmare.

My mother is a believer, but her grief and shock over the sudden decline and having to leave her children was really hard to watch. My cousin and I did round the clock care for her, giving morphine and haldol, until the end.

I’m so grateful that my mom’s time on hospice was not as bad as some. She was mobile, able to eat (even Saturday she was asking for tastes of food), and she had all her marbles. I got her out several times and she really didn’t start getting pain until late on Thanksgiving night.

She is finally free of this horror that was taking over her face.

Eternal rest grant unto Edith O Lord and

may perpetual light shine upon her

may Edith’s soul and all the souls of the faithfully departed

through the Mercy of God rest in peace.

God bless you and your family for your kindness to your dear mother during her terrible suffering.

May the Lord Himself soothe your broken hearts and may the memories of your mother lift your spirits.

There is small solace that her suffering has come to an end and rejoicing in Heaven at her arrival.

God Bless

So sorry about your Mom.

It was good that she was aware, alert, and interacting up to her last day.

God bless you for being with her until the very end.

That takes unusual courage.
