“”And don’t even get me started on misinterpretation of Romans 13.””

That’s funny. I would never have given that a thought if I didn’t have a “liberal” sister who quoted it to me when I complained about Clinton’s term in office. It was a different story when GWB entered the White House - she didn’t think much of me quoting it back to her then.

Tell me your interpretation of it as I’ve listened to sermons on it and no two agree on the meaning!

Romans 13 is about all governing authority.

Not just civil government.

Civil government authority is pretty much limited to punishing criminal behavior, enforcing contracts, foreign policy...at least from a Biblical perspective.

Individual, family, church and other private authority (eg one’s employer) also have their own exclusive areas of authority and jurisdiction.

Romans 13 v1-2 refer to authority in general. v3 is an example of civil authority.

Ephesians 5:1-21 self government
Ephesians 5:22-33 family government

All governance is under God. Civil government can no more claim authority over family, than family government can claim authority over foreign affairs.
