As with all Roman society, sexual morality was grounded in power and wealth. A free Roman man of status could gratify his desires with prostitutes, slaves or boys with no social consequences. Just about all he couldn't do was fool around with the virtuous wives of other men of his class. Those wives did not view themselves as oppressed by the Roman double standard. On the contrary, it was the source of their wealth and status in society.

The Christian sexual revolution meant that free Roman men were no longer free to victimize the powerless women and boys who previously had been viewed as their fair game. The former victims became equal in the eyes of Christ and could pursue a family life of their own, something that would eventully be known as the pursuit of happiness.

The Christian revolution freed millions who had been at the bottom of the Roman social structure. "Progressives" want to return to pagan rules of social and sexual victimization. Epstein and Weinstein are good examples of the return to those mores.
