PROFITING FROM PROVERBS - 9/22/2019
KING JAMES BIBLE | 9/22/2019 | PilgrimsProgress

“That thy trust may be in the LORD, I have made known to thee this day, even to thee” (Proverbs 22:19).

TOPICS: Ministry/Outreach
KEYWORDS:
“That thy trust may be in the LORD, I have made known to thee this day, even to thee” (Proverbs 22:19).

“That thy trust may be in the LORD,” because they are the Lord’s wisdom, they are the Lord’s words.

Now, here is a real interesting thing. If you don’t have the words of the Lord, how can you trust fully in the Lord? This passage says to bow down your ears, hear the words of the wise, keep them within you, that your trust may be in the Lord. Well, if you don’t have the words of the Lord, you just have someone’s opinion on the matter. If we do not have a Bible that men have faithfully translated, no man can truthfully and honestly say that they trust in the Lord one hundred percent.

God has had to provide us, and there again, it was God that did it (in verse 22:12 it is the eyes of the Lord that preserve knowledge), He did it that man could trust in Him. Paul said: “And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power” (I Corinthians 2:4-5). What Paul preached were the words of God’s wisdom. Why? “That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God” (I Corinthians 2:4-5).

If a man isn’t preaching the words of God’s wisdom, people have no basis to trust in God. They will be lacking in any kind of real faith. What we see in American Christianity today is a faithless, powerless bunch of people. And it is because they really don’t have the words of God’s wisdom. They are taught that the Bible for the most part is a “good” translation, but not the best, and as a result their faith is shattered.

When Christians have nothing but a faithless Christianity, they reach out to other things such as psychiatry, psychology, education, and philosophy for truths—since it has been destroyed here—so what we see in America is a striving for a so-called “Christian education.” These are purely the result of people that cannot find faith in their Bible. So, they are looking for it somewhere else.

“. . . I have made known to thee this day, even to thee,” we can rest assured that God has made known His Word to us, he has purified it, and He has preserved it.

Let’s read a chapter of Proverbs a day and see what God might have for us. As the Lord leads, share with us what God has shown you in a special way and by His grace let us build up a devotional repository. Let’s keep our knives and forks handy for some daily bread!

If anyone would like to be added to the ping list, please let me know either by post or by p.m.

I’m not sure how active I might be on here, but I’d love to be added to this group.

Who I am, in the Lord:

When my parents became ill, family personalities came out (oh, what surprises arose!). My siblings “turned” and a group (speared by one jealous in-law) decided that I’d “been manipulating” my parents and must be ousted from my own family. I soul searched to make sure I wasn’t doing this, and my soul’s honest answer was that, simply, I had been treating my parents as I would want to be treated in the old-age situation of their time. (For example, I was the only one sharing with my hard-of-hearing father what doctors were saying about Mama—his WIFE of 76 years!)

I suppose that the spark was lit because my mother had asked me to be the care-giver when time required one. Mom had her reasons, but I never spoke of them to others because that was my mother’s business.

So...my siblings evicted me from my parents’ society as they were safely set in a lovely seniors’ apartment. My miserably sad father told me that he was afraid that he would lose all of the others if I stayed included. My heart was broken beyond my belief of what could ever happen. To my soul, I had been absolutely sure that my family was TIGHT. No one could have convinced me that we did not all have each others’ backs...forever.

I’m single, and my kids are grown.

I had always believed myself to be a God-loving Christian...but I didn’t even know what one of those was. And I didn’t know that I didn’t know. When my Whole family abandoned me (with my parents stripped from me—Mom recovering and not knowing about the melodrama), I went to The Bible...for the first time in my selfish, worldly life. I had NO idea why; I had no idea what was there; but I started on the first page of The New Testament and planned to read it all because I was alone. This was during Easter Vacation, over five years ago.

At one point—I can’t even tell you chapter and verse, and I think God meant for it to be that way—I found myself searching a verse for its meaning. Seemingly, this was no big deal...just re-reading it a few times so as to get the most from it. Know that I’m a retired English teacher, so I can understand Shakespeare’s English to a fair degree (that being the exact language of the KJV Bible I was reading).

Suddenly, without knowing who was watching me, I was stricken with a blessed understanding, beyond the simple words. I was stricken with a physical shivering jolt through my whole body...like of gentle-but-startling bolt of lightening. I now know that our Dear, Loving Lord sent me the Gift of Life...the Holy Spirit. I knew then that God had come to me in that instant. I had no idea what I was looking for, but I knew that I was broken and alone, and I was in need. As I tell this, it still makes me cry with appreciation, love, and the knowledge that I don’t deserve it. (This is the first time I’ve written it.)

I went to tell my son, and he knew that this was true...as I knew it.

Since that time, my life is His. Through events, I was able to care for my parents (after work) for the fastest 2 1/2 years I’ve ever known. Wonderfully, my parents and I were able to share my awakening! My brothers have done the best they could do in the way of apologies without using the words. All of my siblings raided the physical family treasures while I was caring for my parents (The finances were evenly split, via a will.), but I inherited more than they could know.

To add it all up: The most devastating event of my life GAVE me my Life.

I cling to our Lord, and He provides an abundance of all that I could want.

I’m sure not perfect, but I am blessed: My life is His, and I know Him—our God, our Savior Jesus, and our Holy Spirit!

Amen! Thanks for that splendid testimony!

I added you to the ping list.

On a couple of occasions I thought, “Well, I guess nobody else wants to be added to the list . . .” and I get surprised!
