Is the Pope the leader of the Catholic church or not?
It is a simple question all Catholics should know the answer to.

A specific Pope can be the nominal leader of the Catholic Church, but not all Pope's are. Anyone of man/woman/humanity is flawed, thus all Popes are flawed, as are all ministers, pastors, Rabbis, Imams, etc. Catholic means 'universal', and the Catholic Church is supposed to be the universal Christian Church. That said, the Catholic Church has failed in this over, and over, and over again. Nonetheless, all Christians, whether Protestant or Catholic are members of the wider church of Christ - AND, are spiritual descendants of Judaism. My point is that no one group has all credibility and truth.
The Church has “False sons within her pale”.
