All our righteous works are as filthy rags in God’s sight.
Mary was favored because she was chosen to be mother of the Messiah, not necessarily because of some inherent virtue of hers that God thought was really special.
God favored Mary and therefore chose her to bare his son, he did not find favor in just any one.
