WASHINGTON, D.C., March 29, 2019 (LifeSiteNews) — The Holy See has indicated that pro-LGBT Archbishop Wilton Gregory of Atlanta may be appointed as the next head of the Archdiocese of Washington, D.C., sparking controversy among some Catholic conservatives.
An official announcement could come as early as next week, although Vatican sources have hedged their bets, suggesting to the Catholic News Agency (CNA) that his appointment is “subject to change.”
Gregory will succeed Cardinal Donald Wuerl, who stepped down in the aftermath of last year’s Pennsylvania Grand Jury Report on clergy sexual abuse when it appeared he was continuing a pattern of obfuscation and cover-up.
One Catholic lay group expressed grave “reservations” about about the appointment of Archbishop Gregory as archbishop of Washington.
“We urge the Holy See to seek out a worthy candidate who is without ties to Joseph Cardinal Bernardin, Mr. Theodore McCarrick, or Donald Cardinal Wuerl,” Catholic Laity for Orthodox Bishops and Reform stated in a press release.

How does the Archbishop of Canterbury or the Lutheran Bishop of Dresden (who as near as I can tell is the Lutheran in charge of overseeing the teaching of whatever Lutheran’s teach in Wittenberg) stack up against Gregory?
When I was a younger person I read in the Bible that God forbids Heavenly images and that we should call no man FATHER except one, our heavenly father God.. I became convicted and left the church as well as did many, many others to the point the Catholic Church noticed a huge financial loss in contributions. That is when they all of a sudden took down all the statues.
Maybe when the people of today read in the Bible that God hates Homosexuality there will be another great exodus of members that leave it, This time maybe it will be the death blow that finally kills this sinful tool of Satan.
The Reformation began the process of giving Christians the freedom to choose their ecclesial communities, rather than everybody having to follow the bishop of Rome no questions asked. It means I can worship Christ without having to follow church leaders who teach liberal heresy. I can go to a bible believing church if I choose. The point is choice and competition. Just as with the government schools system, forcing everybody into a single bureaucratic structure is a formula for corruption and abuse

As an economist, (my first degree) I appreciate your point.
As a theologian (my third degree) and philosopher (my second degree), who believes that God orders things, both temporal and spiritual, visibly through imperfect leaders (the last perfect visible leader having Ascended some time ago, though we anxiously wait his visible return given the schmucks that we have had to put up with in the mean time), I have to ask: who does God want leading me, not who would I like leading me, and I am I following that person or those people.

The statues are still up in many places—the Church is a big place and many people do stupid things for all sorts of reasons. There are many reasons why people took off—not because of what you did, and most of them weren’t for the same reason.
Did you get made Pope and authoritatively interpret the Bible, influencing loads of people? While you were doing that, did you notice the parts where God commands the making of images?
Forget the ‘See’ usage. It’s the latching onto the word ‘Holy’ that should be viewed with possible disdain. The mowhawmuhdunz attach ‘holy’ to all things mowhawmuhd, the false prophet.
Jesus is the Christ, the only begotten Son of the living God. That is the foundation of Christianity. If it ain’t tied to him, it ain’t holy.
Worshiping Christ but choosing not to take ones lead from the pope was the very definition of Protestantism in the 16th century. Curious that there are people today who elect not to follow the current pope but call themselves Catholics
Also, in our fallen world, monopolies are seedbeds for corruption - in any sphere of human life. Think how much more horrendous the child abuse scandal would be if the Church of Rome had no marketplace competition exposing it it outside accountability
God seems to have ordered human nature so that , at least in our fallen state , we need competition and choice in all areas of areas of life, spiritual as well, to keep organizations and enterprises (spiritual ones too) honest, and oriented toward serving Gods people instead of their own bureaucracies
The Pope is the Vicar of Christ on earth, just as the leaders of the Jews in Christ’s day sat on the seat of Moses—when the respective parties act like Vicars of Christ, or like someone on the seat of Moses, follow them.
When they don’t, well, go Biblical and call them white washed tombs or whatever if you feel like them, don’t follow in so far as they aren’t acting in the way they were deputed to act.
When Francis acts as Vicar, I follow, when he doesn’t, I will, please God, go Jerome on him as appropriate. The problem is that going Jerome in an improper way is really, really tempting, and in order to figure out what the heck Francis is doing sometimes takes more degrees in theology than I have.
So when I don’t know what he’s doing, I’ll sit still.
