Guessing, but there might have been a legal reason: that much publicity could be “poisoning the jury pool”, so that the defendants in a lawsuit could claim that they couldn’t get a fair hearing.
Bad idea.
actually him being invited to the state of the union hurts his case in a law suit...to get damages you have to show that this hurt the individual.
