Yes ... That’s why I quoted St. John’s and St. Luke’s Gospels above.

I’m going to be nice this time and say only that I pray for him, but it is very difficult to make myself do so.

:-)

This is the crux of this Pontificate. If the Holy Father is in grave error and is TEACHING error, we are not under any obligation to self-immolate. Indeed, Our Lord died so that we could have eternal life....if I knowingly follow the grave error of a fallible human over the Truth of the Church Triumphant, I am effectively saying human novelty wasn't worth the sacrifice of the Precious Blood.

Our souls aren't worth losing over this novelty.

If he’s teaching manifest error ... is he Pope?

Just a theoretical question.

Can a Pope “resign”?

Another theoretical question.

I'm hardly a theologian, but...

The Pope is fallible. It is only in very limited instances when the Pope is infallible-the only instances of such Infallibility to date is with regard to Mary's Assumption.

The Pope is the Head of the Church as chosen by the College of Cardinals. Because we are all fallen, even the Cardinals can get it wrong. Thus, even if a Pope is way wrong, that doesn't ipso facto negate his election. So he IS the Pope just like Obama was President.

As for resignation, that is what Benedict XVII did so yes, it can happen.

I hope that helps.

Just ignore this Pope.

I agree that we should not follow error. But I *do* believe action by the laity is required, because we sure aren't gonna get it from senior management.

This great article on what Catholics can do who’ve lost faith in their bishops and even the pope highlights several, concrete calls for action. Some are small, some are big, but ALL can be taken by the laity.

I don't want to sound Pollyanna but I like what our good FRiend Mrs Don't-O said previously:

Resist and rejoice. God put us here --- put us in place by the wisdom of His providence --- right here, right now . We were made for such a time as this.

Abusus non tollit usum. The abuse of a thing doesn't invalidate the (valid or legitimate) use of the thing.

Concretely: Evil rulers may execute innocent men. It does not follow thereby that it is wrong for just rulers to execute guilty men.
