VATICAN CITY (Reuters) - Men with deep-rooted homosexual tendencies should not be admitted to the Catholic clergy, and it would be better for priests who are actively gay to leave rather than lead a double life, Pope Francis says in a new book.

Be celibate or leave, said the pope. Then, with a smile he said, Party at my place at 6,and remember black Speedos only.
“...it would be better for priests who are actively gay to leave rather than lead a double life,...”
There goes the majority of the college of Cardinals!!!!
Well it certainly is not natural. Which is why enforced celibacy leads to so many problems.
Yes, there’s zero requirements for that in the Bible. Peter had a wife as did most disciples that I know of. Paul I don’t think did, but he travelled so much.
Literally guffawed out loud.
Talk. Walk the walk. Is he ready to severely gut the priest hood or damn near eliminate the Jesuit order?
So you’re saying that the way Jesus lived his life was contrary to Scripture?
The Bible is not Biblical
Yup, at this point it looks like a concession to political pressure.
Maybe, like Obama, he just read about in the paper.
It is truly amazing to me that some people on FR can be so right on certain subjects and comment with great insight and then on other subjects like celibacy be beyond dumb and parrot pure BS.
No I’m saying read what Paul wrote.
Jesus was different being the Son of God and all.
The catholic Bible? Yes, you are correct.
I must mention that the celibacy is not forced. It is chosen.Men know what the price is to be a priest. The difficulty of living it must be tremendous.
Well the problems within the Catholic church with regard to pedophilia and homosexuality among priests is very grave and they have been compounding the sins by trying to cover it up in many cases. I may not be an expert on celibacy but it is painfully obvious that it is not working out very well for them.
And your point is?
All the evidence I have seen suggests otherwise. Sure, some child molestation happens, but the largest majority are not children (defining pre-pubescent as children). Most incidents involve post-pubescent youth or young men.
My point? The pope, the Vatican, all that stuff has nothing to do with Christianity. The Bible does hold the answers.
Perhaps it is just another of his attempts to get the gay sex problem to go away without doing anything. He can say anything, and still the clergy can do anything, which is what they’ve been doing.
Clergy violating the vow of celibacy should be defrocked. Let’s hear him order that.
Isn’t this the same pope who celebrates homosexuality?
