The US Bishops don't believe they are are untouchable... they
know they can be touched.
If Mr. Whitaker needs proof that there is an organized crime component in this scandal, I think he has it now... the only problem is that most of the current US bishops actually aren't complicit in the covering up... and one bishop that is complicit happens to be a Head of State and Head of Church.

Who cares if they’re current. Its the fact that it happened and was covered up.
Dioceses are already filing bankruptcy. After the DOJ gets done how much more $$$ will have to be paid out.

And as Head of State he enjoys diplomatic immunity. How convenient.
