A parable doesn’t always map in every detail to the point it’s illustrating.
Thank the good Lord that He does present every person who will be willing with multiple, multiple witnesses and enormous forbearance. And the embarkation on the promise can start — may I use the phrase — in a jiffy.
But those who are foolish enough to say “Oh, I can go face God without His help to do that” are going to find themselves up poop creek with no paddle. What an existence completely given over to the devil would be like, we can only surmise. But it would be one of freely chosen vain fury at the Lord. Malice has its own pleasure, and C. S. Lewis surmised about a “black pleasure” that would send any soul not already damned to its prayers in nightmare terror. But the point is, please don’t let yourself go there. Heaven would far rather have you. But you have to let it conquer your heart.
