It seems to be part of the mentality that people are not going to behave unless forced to by an outside force. That they aren't responsible enough to live an upright and moral life without someone watching over them and setting the boundaries for them. As someone posted recently, and I think it was bb, Catholicism doesn't trust people to live right on their own. And in that teaching, they are actually condemning souls to hell because they teach the accursed gospel of salvation by our works and not by grace through faith and not by works! Jesus' sacrifice, according to them, isn't sufficient to redeem us.

You and I used to belong to a certain religious cult, that will remain unnamed, but we all know which one I am referring to. 😁😇
