The Catholic Church teaches that Christ’s one sacrifice on the cross is what takes away our sins. That’s why we say that the sacrifice of the Mass is the very same sacrifice as that of the cross. If the Mass were not the same as the cross, it could never take away sins.

I thought you guys said it was an unbloody sacrifice...which would not be the same as the Cross which was bloody. Some of your fellow Roman Catholics might disagree with you.

Again an understanding of the times is helpful. Early Christians referred to the Eucharist and Mass as the breaking of bread.

No. Not every meal was considered the Eucharist. Are you sure you know the times as you claim?

You are still ignoring the Truth as Jesus told us, and many followers did not believe and left.

you mean this exchange:

60Therefore many of His disciples, when they heard this said, “This is a difficult statement; who can listen to it?” 61But Jesus, conscious that His disciples grumbled at this, said to them, “Does this cause you to stumble? 62“What then if you see the Son of Man ascending to where He was before? 63“It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing; the words that I have spoken to you are spirit and are life.

64“But there are some of you who do not believe.” For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were who did not believe, and who it was that would betray Him. 65And He was saying, “For this reason I have said to you, that no one can come to Me unless it has been granted him from the Father.”

66As a result of this many of His disciples withdrew and were not walking with Him anymore.[vv64-65 are why some of the disciples withdrew]

67So Jesus said to the twelve, “You do not want to go away also, do you?”

[Peter nails the answer here...pay close attention to what he says and doesn't say]

68Simon Peter answered Him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have words of eternal life. 69“We have believed and have come to know that You are the Holy One of God.”

The substance of the Eucharist is Jesus Christ, and a person must have that substance to be saved. So we receive Jesus and he comes to us physically and spiritually. We pray and thank God for His sacrifices for our sins.

Not what Peter told the Jews at Pentecost.

37Now when they heard this, they were pierced to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Brethren, what shall we do?” 38Peter said to them, “Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Acts 2:37-38 NASB

Nor these either....

17“And now, brethren, I know that you acted in ignorance, just as your rulers did also. 18“But the things which God announced beforehand by the mouth of all the prophets, that His Christ would suffer, He has thus fulfilled. 19“Therefore repent and return, so that your sins may be wiped away, in order that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord; Acts 3:17-19 NASB

Not what Peter told Cornelius.

43“Of Him all the prophets bear witness that through His name everyone who believes in Him receives forgiveness of sins.” 44While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell upon all those who were listening to the message. 45All the circumcised believers who came with Peter were amazed, because the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out on the Gentiles also. 46For they were hearing them speaking with tongues and exalting God. Then Peter answered, 47“Surely no one can refuse the water for these to be baptized who have received the Holy Spirit just as we did, can he?” 48And he ordered them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they asked him to stay on for a few days. Acts 10:43-48 NASB

Not what Philip told the Ethiopian...

34The eunuch answered Philip and said, “Please tell me, of whom does the prophet say this? Of himself or of someone else?” 35Then Philip opened his mouth, and beginning from this Scripture he preached Jesus to him. 36As they went along the road they came to some water; and the eunuch said, “Look! Water! What prevents me from being baptized?” 37[And Philip said, “If you believe with all your heart, you may.” And he answered and said, “I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.”] 38And he ordered the chariot to stop; and they both went down into the water, Philip as well as the eunuch, and he baptized him. Acts 8:34-38 NASB

Not one mention of the necessity of eating/drinking His flesh and blood in any of these accounts.

Somehow those men of God did not convey what Roman Catholics say must be conveyed.

I think I'll go with what those guys were preaching....not Rome.

Why wouldn’t you want to receive Jesus as often as you can?

Because it's a one time profession of your faith.

Paul noted this.

” 8But what does it say? “THE WORD IS NEAR YOU, IN YOUR MOUTH AND IN YOUR HEART”—that is, the word of faith which we are preaching, 9that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; 10for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation. 11For the Scripture says, “WHOEVER BELIEVES IN HIM WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED.” 12For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, abounding in riches for all who call on Him; 13for “WHOEVER WILL CALL ON THE NAME OF THE LORD WILL BE SAVED.” Romans 10:8-13 NASB

Why wouldn’t you want to receive Jesus as often as you can?

Because it’s a one time profession of your faith. Where is it stated that faith is a one time acceptance and how can one determine that they will not reject that faith by their actions (sins) before their death?

So according to some, faith in Jesus is what we want to believe, and ignore the words of Jesus that one does not agree with? Or disagree with the oral traditions and teachings that were passed down from the time of Jesus?

The words of the Bible are not mutually exclusive. Obviously there are passages in the Bible that are helpful in understanding the good news, but we still need to understand the big picture.

Again, many want to rely only on what is written in the Bible, and on their selective use of some passages while ignoring others. Many ignore the message if a specific word or name is not mentioned.

So does one have faith in Jesus as God, if they only believe in some teachings while ignoring other teachings?

It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing; the words that I have spoken to you are spirit and are life.

Yes our flesh on earth profits nothing, but the Body and Blood of Jesus (His Flesh) is our salvation and does profit us. So we should want to accept Jesus in the Eucharist and thank Him for His sacrifice for us.
