Not a Catholic here, but with a Ph.d in Theology from a Jesuit University and with profound respect for the Catholic Church. Also, I attend a Catholic Church. My 2 cents is that all those who confess Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior will be saved, regardless of denomination. Many of these have unfortunately been taught false preconceptions about the RCC through no fault of their own, and harbor no innate hostility towards the Church. Theirs is a situation of ignorance, yet in their hearts they feel unity with all those who have true faith in Christ. This is something which I feel Catholics would do well to understand. IMHO the Universal Church transcends any particular denomination.
Thank you. I will pray for your salvation.
“...the Good Thief exhibited a Baptism of Desire...”
LOL! Baptism of Desire. Chapter and verse?
(It’s fun to make stuff up.)
Yes, it is so.
All who entrust themselves to Christ's sacrifice alone, will be saved, regardless of denomination.
Those who trust their own perceived or hoped for merit, earned through works or otherwise, will not be saved, regardless of denomination.
Yes.
Yes.
Weirdly though when I attended a few Salvation Army services I found out they dont do communion.
Please educate yourself.
This is a serious question: Do you expect to see this pope in heaven?
My understanding is that the Salvation Army, not being a church, does not baptize, nor hold communion. This is common among “parachurch” organizations. They do support these commandments being fulfilled in local churches.
Posting facts is not trolling. Why don't you join the discussion and post some facts??
Come on in. The water's warm.
I educated myself as a Seminary student, but thanks anyhow.
Made up stuff.
Agreed. Our salvation is in Christ alone, regardless of what church we attend.
I'm surprised you consider SALVATION extremely trivial.
What do you consider more important than eternal life in heaven??
Good old Tradition. Believe something long enough and it has the force of scripture. What could go wrong?
Before the Bible there was the Church. If Protestants don’t believe in the ONE true Church, why on earth do they use the Church’s calendar to celebrate Christmas, Good Friday, and Easter on the same dates observed by the one Church.
Looks like the early Church fathers, some of whom were disciples of St. John, were all wrong. And the thousands of martyrs, saints, and theologians of the last two millennia all got it wrong. And the tens of thousands of historians, Protestant theologians, atheists, and and scientists from all other faiths from ordinary workpeople to Kings and Queens who converted to Catholicism all got it wrong.
What did they miss?
I would encourage you to re-read John chapter 6 with a mind and heart open to the Holy Spirit and not anyone's doctrine. "Throughout" the chapter, the "main thing" that Jesus challenges His disciples on is "belief in Him" - communion is the respective metaphor. Jesus uses metaphors throughout His teachings. Jesus also told Nicodemus that he needed to be born-again. Like the disciples in John 6, Nicodemus responded with his natural mind, "How can a man be born when he is old."
Read further in John 6: 61-64, where Jesus speaks to the disciples murmurming about your view of communion.
"When Jesus knew in himself that his disciples murmured at it, he said unto them, Doth this offend you? What and if ye shall see the Son of man ascend up where he was before? It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life. But there are some of you that believe not."
Did you get that? "It is the spirit that gives life; the flesh profit nothing: the Words that I speak unto you, they are Spirit, and they are Life."
