Look at Proverbs, chapter 4.
I wonder if you’ve ever heard this one? Verse 25.
“Let thine eyes look right on . . .”
Remember when everybody said that? “Right On!” Remember when that was going around? You think somebody got that out of a King James Bible? They sure did! You think they knew it? Sure didn’t.
I like what the new Bibles say. The King James Version says, “right on”, the New King James says ‘Your eyelids look right before you’ . . . How do your eyelids look at anything? The New American Standard says, ‘Let your gaze be fixed straight . . . The New International version says, ‘fix your gaze directly.’
I can just picture going down the street and yelling, “Gaze directly!” “Fix your gaze straight!” No! they say “Right On!” They don’t know they are quoting a King James Bible, but I’ll tell you what they do know – they know better than to quote anything else! Isn’t it amazing?
Ain’t it amazing that when people that reject the Bible, quote the Bible, they quote the One that everyone else rejects? I mean, if you are going to quote one and not know it, you might as well quote the right One. You see, when you quote it – you are only going to quote one because GOD ONLY WROTE ONE!
And now I ask you, which one is easier? You know what you’ll notice whenever you read a King James Bible and you read what these other guys say, you’ll find out that what the King James Bible says in a word or two, they need a whole phrase to say. He said “Let thine eyes look right on . . .” , and they had to say ‘Let your eyelids look right before you,’ ‘let your gaze be fixed straight,’ and all the King James says is ‘right on.’
Which one is right on?
Everything that exist on Earth has grown out of something else.
I’m not arguing with you as to how the common utility of these sayings has translated into the English parlance.
I’m just suggesting that the sentiments behind them are probably almost as old as man and his ability to express himself in speech, and were not new with our Bible; they were probably expressed in many languages before. We have adopted them as common expressions because they ring true with regard to human nature.
I don’t consider it an argument at all.

It is Bible quotes and science . . . first quotes, then science.
Look at Ecclesiastes, chapter ten . . .
I used to hate this one. I did! I didn’t even know it was in the Bible but I hated it. Before I got saved I hated it. Look what it says in verse twenty:
“Curse not the king, no not in thy thought; and curse not the rich in thy bedchamber: for a bird of the air shall carry the voice, and that which hath wings shall tell the matter.”
What do we get from that? “A little bird told me.”
Man, I tell you, before I got saved I hated those birds. Didn’t you ever give your parents one story and then go and do something else? And get back and find out that somehow found out and you ask them, and here you are . . . like seventeen years old . . . and you say, ‘how’d you find out?’ and they say, ‘A little bird told me.’
You know I still don’t like birds. I won’t have one in my house. And you know what? That thing comes from a King James Bible! ‘A little bird told me.’
My mother didn’t know she was quoting from a King James Bible when she told me that. And I didn’t know she was quoting a King James Bible when she told me that. And if we had never seen a King James Bible in our lives, we would still go on quoting it from now until God comes back. Why? The same God that made that Book made me. The same God that made that Book made you. You can’t divorce yourself from that Bible.
Look back to Proverbs, chapter seven . . .
Proverbs chapter 7, you know when you really like something, or when somebody – oh, you know – like when a granddaughter is with her grandfather? You know, that kind of thing – special. They say something like you find in verse two:
“Keep my commandments, and live; and my law as the apple of thine eye.”
They say, “Oh, she’s just the ‘apple of her granddaddy’s eye!’ Isn’t that what they say? “Oh, that’s just the apple of their eye’, ‘Oh, that’s just the apple of our eye!’ People, that’s out of the King James Bible!
Now the fact is this, you can go down to the science lab, and take a bunch of clichés and try to write you a new Bible and put them all in, but that is not what happened here, is it? God put them in and we took them out, and used them. We used them after God already had them in here. So when you see something and it catches your attention, you say it’s the ‘apple of my eye’ you are quoting a King James Bible.
Look at Isaiah, chapter 40.
When you kind of look at your check (as opposed to your bills), you know, your ‘income’ as opposed to your ‘outgo’, and we see something like what we read in verse 15, “Behold, the nations are as a drop of a bucket . . .”. And we say, ‘a drop in the bucket’ and we look at our check as opposed to your bills and say, ‘that’s a drop in a bucket!’
Whenever you don’t get enough what do you say? Have you ever seen a ‘drop in a bucket’? I mean, just a little old number 2 bucket – a two gallon bucket – have you ever seen a drop in that bucket? It makes that drop look so small. If you have a number 5 or a number 10 tub and you put a drop in there, man, that’s nothing! Well, God says the nations are as a ‘drop in a bucket’, and people, we are going to quote that – we’re not going to get away from it – It’s God’s Book.
We are God’s creatures. We are not all God’s children, but we are all God’s creatures. We are His creation, He made us and He left His fingerprints all over us. You know how I know that? Because when I open up this Book I find His fingerprints all over it – like ‘drop in a bucket.’
I believe that everything that exists is ‘God’s Progeny’. He created the universe out of Himself - that’s ‘Father’, isn’t it?
I don’t know a lot about Bible translation; but I wonder if some or many of the metaphors were not translated literally, but translated approximately, referring to comparable metaphors already existent in English.
Or, again, perhaps metaphors common to human observation of Nature have existed in every time and every language...
English as a unified language with standardized spellings, consistent rules of grammar and known figures of speech is largely due to the King James Bible, not the other way around.

I agree with you to a point; but I thought we were discussing meanings, as understood by ‘human beans’; not codification.
Look at Isaiah, chapter 52 . . .
You’ve used this one. “Thy watchmen shall lift up the voice; with the voice together shall they sing: for they shall see eye to eye . . .”
Haven’t you ever seen, ‘We just don’t see eye to eye?’ How many of you have heard that term, ‘They don’t see eye to eye?’ let me see your hands. That’s everybody here!
Now did you know the first time your heard that that you were hearing a King James Bible being quoted? No? You know, you say, ‘Me and my boss, we just don’t see eye to eye’ or ‘me and my mother-in-law we just don’t see’ (of course no one can see eye to eye with the mother-in-law), anyway, ‘we just don’t see eye to eye!’
You say that . . . and people say that. You just might talk to an atheist and you try to give them the gospel, and they might say, ‘you know what our problem is? We just don’t see eye to eye.’ You can say, ‘Thank you, at least you believe the Book!’
They are gong to quote the King James Bible! And if they don’t see eye to eye with us, that’s all right – they are going to quote it anyway.
You all ought to love this one!
Look at chapter 65 . . .
You’ve met somebody like this, I imagine in verse 5 . . . “Which say, Stand by thyself, come not near to me; for I am holier than thou . . .”
Don’t you know somebody with that ‘holier than thou’ attitude? Haven’t you ever, with perhaps just a touch of venom, described somebody as, ‘holier than thou?’ Well, you were quoting the Book. You didn’t say, ‘I’m going to say something bad about them, let me just check the Bible and see . . . maybe I’ll check Isaiah 65. No. You didn’t even know it was in Scripture when you said it.
And you know, that’s what they say about us, you know, they talk about us Christians, ‘You guys are all holier than thou!’ Isn’t that what they call you? Well, say, ‘Thank you, I’m glad that at least you use my Bible.’
“Huh? Whaddayoumean?” I just want to show you where you got your words from. You know what you can count on. You can tell them this. ‘You know what your problem is, Buddy? You can’t get away from quoting this Book.’
“I will not! I’ll never read it! I’ll never quote it! I won’t even put any of It’s Words in my mind!”
“That’s okay, your Creator put them in you before you knew it. He put them inside your head and inside your heart.”

You just couldn’t agree – you aren’t friends any more. You disagreed over something, you just couldn’t see eye to eye, or whatever the case might be – and you came to verse 21 where it reads:
“For the king of Babylon stood at the parting of the way . . .”.
And every one of us has stood there, have we not? Everyone of us have found a time in our life when someone that we loved or someone that we cared about – and someone that we agreed with, someone that we got along with, someone that was special to us – one day, whatever the case may have been or whatever caused it, we came to a place where we could no longer agree . . . and we had a ‘parting of the way’ with them.
That’s where the way splits this way and one goes that way, and one takes the high road and the other takes the low road. They even wrote a song about it, didn’t they. And it come straight out of the King James Bible.
You talk to somebody at your work, or someone in your family and they say, ‘Look, we can talk about this, or we can talk about that, but when you come to that Bible we’ve come to a parting of the way.’
That’s right, it’s the King James Bible they quoted. They are not going to get away from it.

Look at Luke, chapter nine . . .

Did you ever try to explain anything to your kids? That’s a waste of time, isn’t it?
We say, ‘Look at me . . . repeat this to me . . . I make him say to me what I asked him to do . . . and he gets two steps away from me, ‘Uh, What did you want?’ And what I want to happen, I want to happen what the Lord wants in Luke 9:44:
He says, “Let these sayings sink down into your ears.” Has any one ever said, ‘Hey man, let that sink in, will you!”
Have you ever had anything ‘sink in’? It’s like some people . . . whatever joke you tell them, they get it about two hours later. I don’t know if the circuits are all overloaded at the time, but like two hours from now they will suddenly start laughing and say, ‘that was funny!’ It took time to sink in. Or a wife a couple hours later might say, ‘Why did you say that?’ to her husband. And he doesn’t remember it all all. ‘When did I say that?’ ‘About two hours ago.’
And those of you who are teachers, haven’t you finally seen the lights come on in your student. What do you say? ‘It has finally sunk in!’ So when you talk to them you say, ‘Let this sink in, will you?’ A fellow got so frustrated with his daughters because he knew he was going to have to tell them something twice – so he got to where he just said everything twice. He’d say, ‘Go clean your room, go clean your room.’ ‘Go do the dishes, go do the dishes.’
They’d get so mad, but it had to get in.
And the Lord knew that! Jesus Christ knew that! So He said, ‘Let this sink in, will you?’ Hey look, if you let this stuff sink in that I’m telling you this week, ain’t nobody going to shake you on your Book!
Look at Luke, chapter 15 . . .
You know there is two words that put you to rest? You know that? If you’re worried about somebody . . . or somebody is worried about you . . . and you want to put them at rest, you can use two words from the King James Bible, and that’s all you have to say. Two words! That King James Bible condenses everything – makes it all easy to understand – and this is what you say, down here in Luke 15, verse twenty-seven . . . this is when the prodigal son came home.
“And he said unto him, Thy brother is come; and thy father hath killed the fatted calf, because he hath received him safe and sound.”
You ever have anyone that you care about take a long trip, and you heard that they got there ‘safe and sound.’ You didn’t need to worry about anything else. They didn’t have to go into a two-hour discourse on the bumps that the airplane had in the sky, or the near miss, they just had to say, ‘safe and sound.’
Did you ever ship anything? You ask, ‘Did the package get there?’ “Safe and sound.’ You knew that it wasn’t torn, you knew that it wasn’t crushed – it was safe. Two words out of the King James Bible put everyone’s mind to ease. Isn’t that true?
You show me another Bible that gives you two words that puts your mind to ease about anything. Listen, if you’re worried about any body in this country today, and all you hear is that they are ‘safe and sound’ you have nothing more to worry about. Out of a King James Bible. Not a bad Book, is it.
Look at Luke, chapter 22 . . .
“And he was withdrawn from them about a stone’s cast . . .”
So, when something is close what do you say? “It’s about a stone’s throw away.” Now how many atheists in this country do you think have ever quoted that verse? And didn’t know they were quoting that verse. Did you ever wonder about that?
How many people in this world who do not believe the King James Bible have quoted, ‘a stone’s throw away.’ Do you think that when Luke penned that under the inspiration of God Himself that he thought to himself, ‘Boy, I’m going to say something there that they are going to be saying in Plainview, Connecticut someday.’ Nope! He never knew it, but God did.
Do you know what you’ve got in you? You’ve got an entire King James Bible glossary of words that you use. And that glossary is inside of every single human being on the face of this earth. You know why? The same God that made you made this Book. And you can’t get away from the truth of that.
Look at John, chapter 4 . . .
Jesus Christ had just been talking to the lady at the well, and His disciples had gone to buy some meat for Him. They came back and tried to feed Him, but He said He wasn’t hungry (which scared them, because they were Baptists, probably – and they like to eat).
So it says this in verse 34: “Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me . . .”.
And so when you really like to do something, what do you say? “That’s my meat!” I talked to a fellow one time, a preacher, and he said, “Sam, I can do this and I can do that; but my meat is door-to-door work. I just like to do door-to-door work. That’s my meat!”
And if you have something that you like to do, you say, “Boy! That’s my meat! Man, I could just sit down and do that all day long!”
You know where you got that from? Authorized version.

Look at Acts, chapter 20:
Acts 20, verse 24 says, “But none of these things move me . . .”.
So, we say, ‘that just doesn’t move me.’ You ever said that? You ever heard someone say that? ‘That just doesn’t move me,’ or, ‘That’s a very moving thing, isn’t it? That music is very moving.’
Where do you think they got that from? Do you think they knew they would be quoting God’s Word when they said that? Did you know that you were quoting God’s Word when you said that? Not on your life! But you are going to do it.
