There are two types of Canadians: Urban lunatic lefty types from big cities, and everyone else. You met people who are part of the latter category.
I couldnt agree more with one caveat
Id add university towns to the collection of big cities (although admittedly, most universities are also located in big cities). Im sure weve all seen the county by country U.S. red and blue map from the last election
a riding by riding map drawn up for Canada has strong similarities with the exception that there are three parties instead of two. If one is to lump the Liberal Party and the New Democratic Party together, one can quickly see that the rural areas are strongly conservative while the cities are far left liberal. This was also the strong reality for the 2014 provincial election
.. take a look at this map. The Liberals won a smattering of ridings in Ottawa, London, Kingston and Kitchener-Waterloo but the bulk of their ridings were in Toronto and surrounding area. The rest of Southern Ontario basically all went to the Conservatives. http://www.cbc.ca/elections/ontariovotes2014/features/view/riding-finder For those who dont know, Canada uses red for Liberals, blue for Conservatives and orange for the New Democratic Party.
