A group of people from the ultranationalist youth organization Alperen Hearths recited the Muslim call to prayer and performed Mulsim prayers inside Constantinoples Hagia Sophia on Monday, in response to President Donald Trumps recently-announced decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, reports the Hurriyet Daily News.
The group is linked to the right-wing nationalist Great Union Party. Their act comes a few days after Justice and Development Party deputy Şamil Tayyar called for Hagia Sophia to be reconverted into a mosque, in retaliation for Trumps decision.
If you say so, let Hagia Sophia be opened to prayers. We should start holding Friday prayers at Hagia Sophia, Tayyar tweeted on Dec. 6. The former cathedral has officially been a museum since the 1930s.
The incident happened when the group entered the museum, seemingly as simple tourists, then entered a closed-off section of the hall and began the afternoon Islamic prayers, reports Interfax-Religion. One person from the group began to recite the ezan, or call to prayer. Museum security personnel immediately stepped in, while other members of the group began the actual prayers.

Typical. Muslims pretend a great work of Christian architecture is something they created.
The great battle for supremacy that took place in 1453, was for Constantinople. The Byzantine Empire suffered it's greatest defeat at the hands of the Ottoman Empire. The Eastern bastion of Christianity was now sundered and the name Istanbul installed.
Legend has it that terrified non-combatants sought refuge in the cathedral. The slaughter spared only a few, of the helpless women, children and the elderly. It is only fair to say this. The Crusaders had visited total war on their implacable enemies.
the only reason Constanipole fell to the Ottman Turks was the Crusaders sacked the city after being invited in as Christusn charity.
The “STUPID” is strong with these thugs.
They invade a Christian church to punish the Jewish protectors of synagogues, churches and mosques in Israel while ISIS destroys all three in Syria and Iraq.
I guess the failed “Attaturk 101” in elementary school.
Wasn’t that centuries earlier (and related to lack of payment for services)? The simple truth is the schism in Christianity made Constantinople much less important to Latin Rite Catholics; the Orthodox wanted it, they got it.
Something strange or maybe me, but I tried to write in Vooch -the other poster on this subject. It came up as Vouch. Yes, the massive power of organized Christendom could have re taken Constantinople. I understand the schism almost started off a conflict between the two great Christian powers.
I meant to address my post to you as well as the other contributor. Your name was not able to be entered. I think this has been since corrected. The history of Constantinople makes for fascinating reading, if sometimes dismaying.
I would rather this great church of God be razed and replaced by a parking garage than turned back into a pagan temple.
longest peaceful nation ever.
plus 1,000 years of stable currency
The orthodox have a slightly different viewpoint of the franks :)
I’ve read about the sacking of Constantinople and it was incredibly horrible. I did not know that the Crusaders sacked the city and that is why the moslems were able to win. Please direct me more about this or tell me in short. I’m very disturbed by this.
A sad situation, and the last chance for a unified “Western” Christianity to stop the Muslims before the breakup of the western Church (with Protestants in various countries). Eventually different sides in the struggles between Catholics and Protestants would ally with the Turks as needed/convenient, thus guaranteeing Islam would be a permanent presence in Europe...
(The “Vouch” may have been an auto-correction)
True, or not historians claim that the sacking of Constantinople in 1204 thus was ultimately responsible for it's downfall in 1453. I do not necessarily buy this, but that is the story.
That’s OK; we bear no enmity for the Orthodox - just pity because their statueless churches are but a shadow our ours...
:)
I very much appreciate that history, many tnanks. Sounds as though whether the sacking of Constantinople by Crusaders was even partially responsible for its later downfall by the Ottomans, it was a terrible thing to do. History would be very different if the moslems had not won.
all in good fun -
Certainly; the world as it is today is drawing serious Christians together rather than drawing them apart...
